2 Hand Frost - Artifact Weapon Appearances

Hello, I did a quick search on the topic, couldnt find anything, so sorry if its been discussed or answered.

With 2H frost returning, has there been a mention if we will be able to use the frost artifact appearances as a two hander, or do we lose them if not duel wielding?

I assume we will probably lose them if using a 2 hander, though was hoping we wouldn’t.

still not known so far

No word on 2h version which I highly doubt, but the appearance can be applied over a 2h weapon. Though you only attack with your main hand.

They could just scale a weapon slightly and call it a day.

They could give us the brand new Frostmourne model they made for Legion but did not give us

So I tested this a long time ago with my druid on what happened if I had a staff from BFA and wanted to mog over my legion artifact. What happens is you just attack with your MH at the speed of your staff and it looks silly as you stand there in the DW attack animation while stabbing away with just your MH.

I have no idea if they solved that design, but I doubt it. They could unpair the auto attack damage from the auto attacking animation, but I think it’d feel clunky as all get out to watch your character be swinging away, but not actually doing any damage because your 2H hasn’t actually swung yet. My guess is that it’s very likely that they will instead enforce the 2H to 2H, 1H to 1H ruleset over the Artifact.

Given the lore behind Frostmourne and what it implies to what it does to the wielder they’re probably never going to let us have it. It’s kind of a gray area since we took the shards and reforged it and one might argue that it could still corrupt the user anyways, but I think at the end of the day it was pretty obvious they had to use Frostmourne in the Legion Artifact system in some manner.

Plus, not gonna lie, it’d borderline be boring to see every DK and their mother using it.

There’s no Lich King dude. All it did was give the Lich King your soul, and the Lich King already had it. Furthermore, we have the Blades of the Fallen Prince transmog, and those are defunct, too.

Do I need to bring up Apocalypse? It’s canonically more powerful than Frostmourne and more damning.

This is such a non issue. Who cares? People will get bored and go mog new stuff eventually. Let people have fun imo.

I’m fully on board for a Frostmourne transmog even if I’d never use it. I mean every paladin in the universe is using Ashbringer so why not.

And for the anecdotal record, I can’t remember the last time I saw a paladin using the Ashbringer transmog. Which correlates with:

They should go the DH route…

Introduce an ICC timewalking raid.

If you have completed the Shadowmourne quest line and defeat the Lich King, DKs get a 2H Frostmourne Transmog.

Or DK’s could craft a replica Frostmourne transmog appearance with Torghast materials at the smith who made the original

I would never wield another weapon. Ever. Especially if it’s DK only…which it should be.

It 10000000% should absolutely be Death Knight-only. If that’s how Illidan’s Warglaives are for demonhunters, no other class should ever wield Frostmourne.

if ou have one weapon and mog it to the legion artifacts, they appear as 2 weapons, its how it works with druids and with others i guess

i remember moging one 2h into 2h of fury once.

If we were to reforge it using the blades, it’d be powerless like they are. We used it’s power to something-something the Sword of Sargeras.

Unless we do some time-travel mumbojumbo to go and get it before it was shattered, we’d be safe as it’d just be a fancy looking hunk of metal.

Frostmourne has nothing to do with the Lich King as far as what Frostmourne did to the user. The lore of Frostmourne is that it will consume your soul if you wield it and turn the user from good to neutral to evil over time and a non-undead user will become undead. Lich King status has no bearing on whether you can prance around with the sword or not.

This is…patently false.

All I think it boils down to is that Frostmourne is too iconic to hand out. They always say one regret was putting the Corrupted Ashbringer into Vanilla and that’s why they didn’t give it to us in WoTLK. I don’t know, maybe they’ll surprise me someday with unique class content that gives us the ability to merge them againd. The fact that they backpedaled out of defined weapon choice for all classes (besides warrior apparently…) is surprising enough.

I’m not as overly familiar with the lore because it’s an item they created specifically for Legion and it’s relevancy in lore is rather lacking. I went and refreshed my memory on it and yes it’s indeed one of the more powerful artifacts they made, but ultimately I’m not as interested in comparing a random weapon they created for the sake of an expansion system that they immediately butchered at the end of it.

It wasn’t an overly critical point, but what popped into my mind was “Lol inc NH tier + Frostmourne mobs”.

The tabletop rpg isn’t canon, my man.

No, it isn’t.

And I disagree. Ashbringer says hello.

Did you not complete your lore book in Acherus? If not, just look it up on WoWpedia. Apocalypse makes Frostmourne look like a chump.

That argument has always felt exceptionally weak to me after Legion. The Ashbringer, Doomhammer, Scythe of Elune, and to a lesser extent The Scepter of Sargeras, are all extremely important and iconic and yet we were given those.

And as you said previously, they still ended up using Frostmourne in a form. So even disregarding the other weapons it’s still technically in our hands, just not in it’s true form.

So point me to a section that explains exact Frostmourne canon lore, because the sword has always been pitched as an evil soul consuming weapon, which is why during WoTLK they mocked player’s desires to get it by creating the item in-game that would make anyone who had it the new Lich King.

They have also hinted in-game about DKs being less free than they think they are via the memories of Arthas. It seemed to imply that Bolvar, whose mental state has clearly warped over the years courtesy of the Helm, had more control over us than we believed he did.

And Blizzard disagrees with you.

Sorry I don’t have lore made up for an expansion ago memorized.

Since WoW is basically just making up lore on the spot these days anything is possible for them since they can come up with anything they want to. I just don’t think they’re going to go any further with what they’ve already done, but if they ever were going to do it it’d probably be in Shadowlands.

The point I was trying to make was that when they came up with the Artifact system they said that some of them were easy to pick out. Doomhammer, Ashbringer, etc. There was no way Blizzard could not use Frostmourne in some capacity and at the time they were trying to shove DW down Frost’s throat which allowed them to get around ever getting us the actual weapon. If they had really wanted to they could have made DKs unique with only having one artifact via reforging Frostmourne or giving it to Unholy or Blood instead, but they killed two birds with one stone instad.

This discussion boils down to “Are they ever going to do anything else with it?” Methinks no.

This is correct.

They certainly did. But just like how they forgot that it was the Eredar who had corrupted Sargeras, they forgot that Frostmourne did not make Arthas the Lich King.

This is exactly what I’m getting at when I say “he already has our souls.”

No? They gave me Frostmourne. They just made it dual wield. I want the two hander model.

That’s fine, that’s why I suggested checking out the WoWpedia article. Everything you bemoan Frostmourne for (save for being something every DK would transmog), Apocalypse does faster/better/stronger.

We’re going to meet the Runesmith who forged Frostmourne in Torghast.

They LITERALLY gave priests an Old God as a weapon in Legion, and you think Frostmourne is to powerful…
