So the story goes like this. Out pvping (demo spec) in the world pvp zones. Run into this monk, assuming wind walker.
There was literally nothing I could do. I ran back out there like 15 times. Now, I’m not claiming to be most skilled, and dying that many times probably speaks to either my intelligence level or commitment, not 100% sure which at that rate.
There was no kiting/ portal far away enough, amp/curse didn’t back off his damage, barely moved his health bar. Think I may have gotten him to maybe half at one point.
Just wondering others 1v1 experiences. Some Fury warriors have the same kind of pressure. Threw pretty much everything at him but the keyboard.
Outside of “git gud” or whatever these yeet kids are saying these days, how do you handle these 1v1’s. That’s what I want to know.
I was doing a little better using the stop cast method (I don’t practice it often, I know it’s a must at higher brackets). I was able to get more off but even then the fear breaks so fast with damage.

What’s your talent build? I was annihilating a warrior earlier in open world 1v1, popped second fel guard, unending resolve, portal, tyrant, spam shards drop fel obelisk when pit lord comes out and it’s typically gg

All but the Fel Obelisk sounds about par.
Maybe its an ilvl issue, but if not, when i face melees in wpvp i love “call fel lord” pvp talent with demonic strength combo + pet stun, and stay near of your big boy totem.
In 1v1 against fury warriors as demo its more like a long a fight, you have to spend your cd and offensive skills in a smart way.
In a 1v1 against WW, men, its all or nothing, if a ww charge at you just press all defensives and be ready to use your stone with soul burn, if you can survive their burst, go with yours and usually its a gg, but sometime its not good try to kite because melees can still doing burst dmg while they are moving

Theres not much youre going to do because of low ramp up timers on Demo. From my past experience (17 years as Warlock - A masochist, I know) my pains vs melee usually result in the same experience.
The class has always suffered vs melee. Long cast times, low ramp up dmg, even worse when you consider the plethora of lockouts out there.
My only advice for my fellow Warlocks, is hide. Dont engage face to face against any melee unless theyre already unga bunga-ing some other poor helpless soul and try to sneak in on someone elses pain and suffering. The melee mentality is Warlocks are an easy target. No matter how many CDs theyll give us to mitigate dmg or shields we get, at the end of the day, melee dmg is just too far out of reach to survive unless the class gets an overhaul.
Unless something like Bane of Thorns presents itself returning 150% dmg recieved from melee striles for 6 seconds on a 1min CD I dont ever see the class becoming PvP friendly outside being carebear’d by a dedicated healer.
In b4 “PvP isnt balanced around 1v1 / 2v2 / 3v3 / BGs / Open World Encounters” while the melee train chugs along succeeding all the above with no signs of relenting.

Felguard is great, feels really good in the build. I was wondering if maybe I just have to slow down, use drain health more, not kite, but that sometimes doesn’t keep up with their sustain, maybe if it didn’t break fear as fast allowing you to actually recoup like the old days.
I kind of ran into the slow down the kiting in a majority melee Solo shuffle match, I was like screw it, I’m face tanking and let’s see if the healer can keep me up. That plan sometimes fails miserably, but in this instance actually worked. You can’t be running around not putting out damage all the meanwhile you pets are getting pillared into uselessness.
Leveling a warrior now but will still break out the Warlock zugzug for cap each week lol. Kind of stinks having to resummon your pet when you got to deal with somebody and respawning in World PVP
I just can’t be out here losing 1v1’s I have a reputation to uphold.
You are insanely incorrect on everything.
Demonology absolutely manhandles melee and I have more then enough pvp n duel xp to say that.
Drop port n soulburn instant gate… use stuns n coil and have good defensive trades and it should be a walk in the park.
You’re only gonna feel the pain if you’re giving away your cc/port/gate poorly as demo and not using stun/coil to open gaps.
@Chadiator you just gotta learn the good trades brother.

You taking the port pvp talent? I follow you on the insta-gate, I use that as well, but without that talent, it’s like what, once every min or 2?
Nope no gate talent usable every 1:30
Obelisk call felhunter master summoner is the basics…you really don’t need to swap anything out unless you’re super min maxing and that’s pointless in wpvp
You can kite him well if you use your tools correctly.
It’s all a learning process to figure out your correct trades for his mobility.
Any footage?
Will need to work with Obelisk, I normally op for the 15% health reduction.
Footage of just proper kiting? I would suggest watching your favorite streamers in arena and start to get a idea.
Obviously 1v1 and duels are a whole different ballpark but I rarely stream these days and my old duel streams never got a ton of traction bc people would much rather watch arena or dueling people with arena exp similar to mine didn’t have a ton of 1v1 xp or just me beating up on low xp players.
In a mock scenario… I see monk monk sees me… I lay port and soulburn gate and immediately move away from them… with exhaust on the monk… he has 2 options now… he can run to my port to place his port “If he does this ill swap my port and that’s a whole thing in itself” or he’s gonna use his gap closer to catch me… if he uses gap closer 1… ill Grimoire Felguard… if he trinkets ill coil… into fear… if he sits… ill fear and let him run a bit or ill start setting up to see his reaction based on his distance from me… I really only need to make sure I have trinket into port on sweep big go… or trinket coil… if he has no trinket.
All about trades.
All fights are some variation of what Ive listed above… I use my mobility/stuns/coil/fear to avoid him from getting clean openers on me.
Keep them disrupted keep them exhausted.

I can see how you have to get that setup almost immediately. I was holding the port/gate, so would never really get to the port unless kiting, then you’re fighting the interrupts laying the port.
I think I’m too quick on the Felguard as well, trying to get as much dps pressure as I can vs maintaining the distance.
Good stuff, thanks. Certainly not easy, especially when they are zug zug humping your leg, but I can follow the setup and exchange.
It’s all a learning process.
Laying your port and soul burning out gate should be the first thing you do when encountering a enemy.
I now have a foundation that he has to attempt to work around.

Any advice on cast priority for Destro?
More or less situation… with succubus
Charm back his mobility… set up with bolts/instants and kite.
Destro has a ton of mobile damage with some of its better builds.
Have you ever considered running netherward into monks? Aside from a lucky karma reflect I guess you can reflect thunderfist damage to which seems like a pretty good meme in 2s at least.

Fun fact that was the strat for the longest time… obv pre obelisk
Reason being is you would break karma… with reflect up and he would eat the full damage as long as you broke it with reflect up.
With that being said it was a very heavy risk/reward strat and overall you don’t need to do that if you just play it correctly and bait him out.
Ide just rather not get hit or mistime.
Idk, just seems like they will eventually connect even if briefly. NW has the same cd as windlord so it would be pretty meme to full reflect a thunderfist FoF back at a ww every time.
I am just explaining the sure fire way to consistently win with a base toolkit and not making specific talent choices for a fight.
You can do whatever you enjoy… guidelines not rules obviously.
Yea I get it, I just found out about thunderfist being magic the other day and was just curious if anyone else was taking advantage of that.
