Blind accessability, range sound notifications blocked by blizzard

Hi all

I and many other blind players use range display in order to get sound notifications for range with friendlys or enemy’s in or out of combat, it is absolutely fundamental for our ability to navigate and play this game.
In 10.2 blizzard have blocked this capability during combat, combat being a major part of this game and its whole founding point, blizzard have come in and cut our canes in half! Imagine if blizzard cut your viewing distance to 1 yard and you had to navigate combat like that, annoying yes?!
What annoys me even more is that blizzard block things like this knowing full well that people need it to navigate the world but they offer no inclusion of a native solution, how about you add a range notification system before cutting people with accessability needs off from it. Please add this function back to wow until such time that you supply your own native solution.

What!?

Are you serious?? Oh my goodness, Blizzard. Can you please at least tell us why this happened? Was this an attempt to limit bots? Was this a honest mistake?

I’m actually shocked this happened. The past few years Bluzzard has improved accessibility in many areas, so I find this absolutely baffling.

Blizzard, why??

This effect on addons that make the game playable for some players was definitely unintended, and we apologize for that. We’re working on a hotfix that will hopefully narrow the original change so that only friendly targets are restricted. Thereafter, enemy targets will resume being available to range checking.

We’re also going to reach out to addon developers to make sure they get this message.

Looking forward, we’re working on future changes to better address the need for range checking for accessibility purposes, so we really appreciate hearing from you about things you’d find most useful.

Thanks again for all of your feedback!

Foremost, thanks for reconsidering this change - while it would be interesting from a competitive aspect to have this, it goes on the cost of ppl not being able to participate.

I still think it needs to work for friendly targets and enemies the same. From what I gathered, it is used as a way to orientate in a room for blind players (actually being able to “see” other players for ranged based triggering abilities)

Example:

Player A does trigger a harmful “deadly” effect if he stands near Player B for X Seconds (8-yard range) - how can a Blind Person now tell that he’s in range of him ? - Add-ons won’t tell him, so does the non-existing range check do.

Lastly, what I can see it not / working encounter specific for friendly units (but even then it is hard to judge what makes it unplayable / a burden to overcome)
