I agree with OP. $15/Mo. is steep for a 15 year old game with no continuing content updates or weekly changes/fixes. Wasn't that why we paid $15 a month for retail (even back then)? If they can keep the servers up for their other games without a monthly cost to their consumers, why not classic? In my humble opinion, I would have liked to see an outright payment for the game and be done with costs.
Unfortunately, I'm going to pass on classic :/ so bummed.. to everyone else who is going to play anyway, I'm envious (just a little ;)) ENJOY!

The private server community will look for any excuse to not have to pay for Classic. Ultimately they never intended to/cant afford to pay and will bash the game and us to make themselves feel better.

You are paying $15 for classic. With the option to play retail should you want to, no hassle. It's perfect.
In your fictional wishful scenario, the $15 a month you'd be spending STILL goes to Blizzard. The same Blizzard who admitted their mistake and is still releasing classic for all of us.
If you really don't want to support Blizzard, please never play classic and stay on your free vanilla private servers forever with your kind.

To people who say "bye you won't be missed" You should treat one another with respect and listen to legit concerns rather than try to be rude. Otherwise you will be playing on low pop servers that can't progress.

!@#$ well game is 14 years old so it should be free obviously. I mean, its 14 years old so we shouldn't have to pay for the development team, for the staff required to build and maintain the game, or pay the salaries of the GM's that will have to listen to us whine. %^-* they are probably using 14 year old hardware to right? Also, why the hell should we have to pay to keep the servers running?

Then pretend it is only for Classic then since you don't get to say what they do with your sub money what they get it.
Yet they'll use that money as "proof" of the popularity of the modern game.
They'll also cave to pressure from all the modern WoW players to change Classic.
This is really just another version of "you think you want it but you really don't, you want to be playing the modern game".

Never played on a private server. Just gave up playing the refuse heap WoW turned into. Have zero interest in supporting that game financially.
They need to have a separate subscription fee for Classic. It is a completely different game from the modern one so it should be a separate fee. If they want to put together a discounted bundle for those playing Classic and modern retail, that's fine.

$15 back in 2004 is $20 today. People that only want to play vanilla should have to pay an additional $5/m on top of the $15/m for retail.
