11.2 Crashing A Lot

Lots of game crashing in 11.2 Never happens in Mists Classic so somthing in the retail version is causing a lot of crashes. NVidia Drivers 580.88 so most current. I tried turning off ray traced shadows last night and I thought it worked, but today more crashes.

Same here. I’ve tried numerous things to try and fix the problem, up to and including a clean re-install, and nothing has worked. I’m only in game for a minute or two max before the game crashes. This never happened before 11.2.

Same here, I can log in for a couple of minutes and then get DC’ed after about 2 to 3 minutes. I haven’t tried putting it in my folder yet, I’m trying that now.

If you have addons in your addons folder, try moving them somewhere else so that they don’t appear in the addon list. It’s possible that accessing the addon list is checking every addon and not just the ones you actively use and it doesn’t like something in it, or vice versa.

I have noticed a similar issue, and so far out of 4 addons I actively use, only 1 is causing issues, and it’s 20 years old and have been patched by myself over the last 10 years.

I have had it crash on the character screen, more often while looking at the addons list than not. When logging in or out. When mounting up and flying around, but that is not as often as the rest. And when looking at the the addons list in game and crashing when closing the window.

In fact since 11.2 dropped I haven’t been able to play more than a few moments with my addon in the addon folder. Just enough to know it works (kinda I guess rofl).

It can easily be having an issue with any changes Blizzard has specifically done in this expansion that doesn’t outright cause an error but causes a crash.

I still have a few addons to test out that I use for testing along side the offending addon, but testing a theory out my brother suggested in case it makes a difference.

I gave that a try. I have no addons in the interface folder. Reduced resolution from 4k to 2k to help with the load. Still random crashing.

I am not bleeding edge or anything but machine should not be having these issues with this game…

Processor: i9-14900KF
Motherboard: ASUS PRIME Z790-V
Memory: 64GB DDR5-6300MHz
Video Card: RTX 4070 SUPER - 12GB GDDR6X
Monitor: Samsung 43" 4k
Operating System: Windows 11 Home 24H2
Internet: 1GB wired

I run both MSFS2020 and 2024 without issue on highest settings
I run both IRacing and AMS, same results. Butter smooth, no crashing (well except for the driving part)
Guildwars 2, same, smooth and no issues

Based on the number of reports I have seen in these forums, something is definitely broken in the game.

Why, does retail only run on a potato?

That’s just my goto whenever I see 14900k because even new 14900ks that haven’t been heavily exposed to voltage degradation can be unstable at stock clocks given certain workloads. Can’t say if it has anything to do with your issue, because you didn’t upload any diagnostics or really elaborate as to what kind of crash you’re encountering, if an error exception was generated to tell you.

No, but Intel messed up and made their 13th and 14th generation CPUs the potatoes. Like Battlecruisr said, they’re sometimes unstable at standard clock speeds. It’s recommended to take the cores down to 4.2 or so.

Some other players found luck by capping fps, toggling some optional GPU features, or resetting UI/Cvars. Would need you to be a lot more specific about your crashes if none of that helps. Good luck.

I reported my problem in another thread.

I had previously re-installed the game, run “sfc /scannow” and updated everything possible in my computer’s drivers.

I have since followed the suggested course of doing a full UI reset (emptying the Cache, Interface and WTF folders, and doing a “/console cvar_default” in-game).

I am still getting the exact same error, every time:

Exception: 0xC0000374 (HEAP_CORRUPTION) at 00007ffb3119dc45 0x00007ffb3124e0e0

On the most recent crash, I had left the graphics settings at the ones established by the cvar_default command. Previously, I had turned the graphics back up to higher quality I had been using before 11.2. But I saw crashes, and so I left the graphics at low quality, and still crashed.

This time, the only setting I changed after the full reset was to turn on auto looting.

Posted in the Oasis Disconnect thread first, because I was having issues there first, but now I am getting disconnect anywhere from immediately to 5 minutes. I have 1) repaired, 2) reset UI, 3) tried on a different computer (on the same network) and I am STILL getting constantly disconnected. This has ONLY happened since 11.2. This happend on characters in the new zone and on a different character sitting in dornagol.

Yep, I know the whole gen 13 and 14 issue and updated my mobo firmware per manufacturer which deals with this. I am just wondering what retail is doing to cause this issue. Does not do it in Mists. I can run Flight Simulator 2024 which is one of the harder programs on a system’s resourses. NOTHING else I run crashes on my system but wow retail and it is new since 11.2

It slows down the degradation of the CPU — which will still happen faster than CPUs without the defect — but doesn’t restore physical damage that already happened while running outside the intended specs.

Mists isn’t as intense as Retail. The same goes for other software that likely uses multiple cores instead of relying primarily on one like Retail does. WoW is actually a better CPU tester than any test program out there.

Ya, I did the update pretty much right out of the box so not much time spent on the cpu before hand. That said, I had not really thought of the whole single threaded thing. Good to know.

My CPU is also an i9-14900KF…

As a reminder, the error is HEAP_CORRUPTION 100% of the time.

new 11.2 feature is random instant game freeze and crash for no apparent reason

and still experiencing crashes that started in 11.1. usually it’s a loading screen crash

That is next level messed up, and trifling.

With some assistance from the guys on the wowuidev discord I found out that one of the blp images in the addon I manage ( nUI ) that had been created over 10 years ago was apparently not quite the right format. It showed up in game with no apparent issues all these years, but since War Within I’ve been getting these memory allocation crashes.

I was fooled into thinking it was maybe some code I may have done and it triggered it under certain circumstances. But, after fixing the blp file that appeared to be invalid, I have been running for 90 minutes now, compared to seconds after 11.2 dropped, with none of my previously foolproof crash tests not crashing at all.

It might not help those of you that are still crashing with no addons active or in your interface folder, but hopefully it will help those that do to narrow down which addon might have a ‘bad’ image file that needs ‘fixing’.

I have zero addons, cleaned everything out, its not my computer, everything is updated. it has ONLY been since the new content has gone live. nothing happened until that went live. now, its at least every 30 min or more…and their lack of customer support is the usual…“check the forums”…kinda over it…think I will take a break and go play a game that doesn’t disconnect every few minutes…sorry I paid a year sub for this crap…
