11.2 Blood Dk Abom Limb

I am really really disappointed that blizz would straight remove abom limb on top of every other nerf they are giving BDK going into 11.2, BDK was already a pretty weak tank in terms of this season, now soley for raiders they remove abom limb from the entire class.

When will blizzard learn their lesson that balancing the entirety of a spec around one content source is just a terrible idea, on top of that you SHOT OUR KNEECAPS OUT, sanlayn is just DOA its not even comparable or viable at all, and DB is still arguably worst or 2nd worst tank spec going into 11.2, the meta stays the same, the balancing is out of control, and the one thing that helped us be incredibly viable is just straight gone?

Abom was a HUGE source of our inital threat(would have been even more so after our 11.2 gutting session), our grouping capabilitiy in M+ and a very strong utility, we are already known as the wheel chair tank and our utility compared to so many other tanks is just abysmal, so why did anyone think it was a remotely good idea to just gut us some more? because a raider complained or because you had to make a mob ungrippable so you decide actually dks should be useless in any other form of content.

I dont understand the need to utterly ruin classes for the sake of 1 content source, let alone not have some more checks and balances before allowing this to go public even if it is on PTR and subject to change (hints the reason this is being written) its like taking 4 steps backwards, getting yelled at and then having to revert, there will always be stronger classes and weaker classes, its impossible to balance perfectly but the limit the hills and valleys is essential and from what is seen it seems like that divide is just HUGE and really needs to be rethought.

Please for the love of wow dont gut a class that is already on the bottom (talking about M+) dont let 1 content source dictate a change for the entirety of the spec, espeically something like this one.

im not here to crap on you but you should take a second to properly space out your paragraphs, one big dense brick of text is difficult to read and digest

I also believe that removing abom limb just to balance the class for the raid is not a good idea.

If blizzard wants to balance classes specifically for the raid, then mythic plus should have its own set of talents, same as PvP talents and allow abom limb to stay in the game for mythic plus.

You have some points that are good, but that block of text is real hard to read.

Please so some editing and make that more readable.

Honestly, if their whole issue with it is because of how much access it gives to grip, they should just nerf the grip function some instead of flat out removing the entire skill… stupid decision…

It lasts 12 seconds, and death grips an enemy every 1s, for a total of 12 grips over 12 seconds… I can understand their issue with it, that is a lot of death gripping… it basically means no mobs can ever get away from you… but its not unfixable… changing it to every 2s reduces the total number of grips from 12 to 6, 3s brings it down to 4, and 4s would put it at a total of 3… I don’t think they should take it all the way down to 3 grips… but either 4 or 6 would be fine… start with 6, and only nerf it to 4 if that still proves to be too much access.

The most important thing with adjusting it would be to NOT adjust the frequency of damage… blood DKs still need that high damage tick rate to build up threat… I recently started leveling a Blood DK, and OMG it is near impossible to establish aggro without Abomination Limb…

I could POTENTIALLY see how removing it from frost or unholy is something but I feel like for blood it is SO MUCH MORE IMPORTANT, there are also so many dead talent nodes in blood tree that you absolutely could make it baseline (optimally even though that may be a hot take) or LET ME BE CLEAR VERY EASY TO ACCESS ON BLOOD TREE, removing it from the game is just sad and very much so hurtful for an already dead spec

I agree that removing abom limb from Dk would be like removing divine toll from prot paladin - it has become such an iconic ability for the class that it would feel incomplete without it.

Personally I’d rather not see it removed from any spec… I love having it on my unholy DK… what they could do though… is maybe remove the grip from it on Frost & Unholy… and maybe even make it a choice talent with Gorefiend’s Grasp on Blood…

I feel like the seven death nights who are upset about this on this forum, should probably just get together in one thread and yell about it. They obviously removed it for a reason. And that reason is probably in the patch notes.

This is because the devs in Blizzard are leaning away from DKs. Many play Shammy. Why do you think some classes get a ton of love and the rest get the short stick? They want their classes to shine.

And if this goes thru and blizzard doesn’t listen, they will never put it back, and they will lie and do EVERY but give it back. They won’t care if they ruin a class or spec. They trashed Augvokers and now They will do it to Blood DK. THey don’t care.

We know the reason. They weren’t candid about it at all… we disagree with the reasoning. The reason justifies changing it sure, but outright removal… no…

What? Every dk i know loves abon limb. Every single one. I hate pkaying dk and even i know this spell and how cool it is. Admittedly not gonna read the dk notes bc im not that interested to see reasons; but, this is a pretty big change with nothing im aware of to provide alternate utility.

like I said, they obviously have their reasons for removing it and not just reworking it. They could be making room for something else or maybe they felt like the DK already has enough power in their arsenal. I honestly couldn’t tell you. I stopped playing death night after they essentially neutered the BDK.

They aren’t. They are removing it simply because they feel that it provides too much access to death gripping enemies. As a result, many dungeons and raid encounters have been designed with several death grip immune mobs simply because of the existence of Abomination Limb… so because they want to stop including such mobs and not design around the possibility of someone using Abomination Limb, they are just removing the skill… they aren’t even considering alternatives, they just decided to go straight to the nuclear option and removing it. Why? Because it is a minor inconvenience to them when designing dungeon and raid encounters.

They made no note of how its removal may impact damage for DKs, no note how how this affects threat generation for blood DK… absolutely zero thought into the implications of its removal… it gave too much death grip access, so its being removed… simple as that… and to hell with the consequences apparently…

To their credit, yes… 12seconds of 1 automatic death-grip per second is a bit much… simple solution is to reduce how often it death grips.

It’s not all raiders, it’s world first raiders. Plenty of top guilds cleared mythic without “mandatory” classes or with death knights on the team. This is just the kind of thing that happens when you support RWF.

Seems to me that when it comes to dungeon and raid encounters, they should never be fully reliant on one skill or ability from one class or spec. I don’t know what their plans are or their true choice behind the decision because I haven’t been pointed in the direction of any interviews or articles expressly related to this specific removal.

I just know it would be nice if they were to create dungeon encounters that were class agnostic which would prevent the Meta combo that we’ve been seeing in recent expansions from dominating the endgame content. If it’s not designed specifically around one or two classes, then maybe every class stands a chance to participate. That’s just my perspective.

They aren’t, and never have been… the belief that they are is a symptom of the playerbase being overly reliant on the concept of “the meta”. Every encounter can be cleared by every party composition, it just so happens that some do a better job at it than others though. But every encounter is in fact designed in a way that every possible party composition can succeed.

What is happening here is actually the exact opposite of what you’re complaining about even… they were designing content specifically to hinder Death Knights because they believe Death Grip to be such a powerful tool. They feel its better to reduce access to death grip than it is to continue designing content to hinder its usage. Which they are actually correct in that thinking… they are just completely off the mark on how to go about doing that.

I wasn’t complaining about anything. I was expressing my view on the situation. I don’t play death knight. i’m not actively participating in endgame content. I also believe that all content could be cleared by any combination.

that said if they know the Meta combos can easily sweep through the content it may be worth designing the content to make it more difficult for very specific classes the way they are doing with the death knight. Perhaps there’s something in the other classes that could be hindered in a similar way and keep the challenge alive for everybody without making it completely impossible.

but your assumption that my comments are a complaint is inaccurate. Unlike some of the posters on this form, I don’t come here to wine or moan or pick a fight. I come here to express an opinion.

noun

noun: complaint; plural noun: complaints

  1. a statement that a situation is unsatisfactory or unacceptable.
  • a reason for dissatisfaction.
  • the expression of dissatisfaction.

You factually made a complaint. A statement of one’s opinion can still be a complaint. Nothing wrong with stating a complaint either.
