11.1 PTR Frost Mage Changes look awful

These Frost Mage changes look awful. Their single target damage is being absolutely gutted. Changing Frozen Winds is a terrible decision, by removing that option to generate Fingers of Frost, it pushes a reliance on Frostbolt to generate procs which is already the worst feeling part of Frost’s kit, Coldest Snap is also locked behind Frozen Winds so we are pretty much going to be forced to take it in Mythic+. You’re taking away a talent that adds new and interesting functionality to the kit, and instead giving a lackluster damage boost that is only applicable in AoE scenarios, on the second to last row of talents especially, that feels incredibly lackluster. The changes to Fingers of Frost generating a splinter just dosn’t sound impactful, it just slows down our whole rotation making us end up spamming 4 Ice Lances to get through 2 Fingers of Frosts and 2 Winter’s Chills before going back to spamming Frostbolt to generate procs again which dosn’t feel good especially compared to cycling through our abilities to generate them as we currently do, plus, considering how short the duration on Winter’s Chill is, when using things like Ray of Frost, we are going to have to start consuming Winter’s Chill stacks with Frostbolt to prevent them from falling off, which also feels awful. You’re taking a talent that currently has both single target and AoE usage, and ruining any single target viability, making it less incentivizing to cast Frozen Orb, and less interesting when it’s cooldown refreshes. The buffs to Blizzard aren’t useful either, we aren’t lacking in AoE damage and casting Blizzard is not, and will not be a “compelling option” because it lacks any interaction with our hero talents. Doubling it’s damage doesn’t do much considering how low it is currently, the best purpose it serves is lowering Frozen Orb’s cooldown, and it serves no purpose in single target whatsoever. Lowering the number of splinters Frozen Orb generates I can understand, but means that we will see even less Frozen Orb resets, which ends up lowering our rotations momentum a lot by reducing the total number of shatterstorms, we get and thus Brain Freeze procs, and also reduces our access to Fingers of Frost, which is supposed to make up for those lost splinters. Not to mentioned on top of all of that, all splinter related damage is nerfed by 10%.

The dev note claims the Freezing Wind changes were because it was “impacting our ability to increase access to Frozen Orb or put more power into Fingers of Frost.” So they decided to nerf access to Frozen Orb by reducing the splinters it generates, and also reduce access to Fingers of Frost, to instead making frost more reliant on spamming Frostbolt fishing for procs, which is the worst feeling part of their kit.

All that is on top of a Tier Set bonus that is awful, both other Mage specs get damage bonuses, Arcane getting a 8% damage bonus for 12 seconds guaranteed every 45 seconds, with random procs granting both the damage buff, and their most important procs for their rotation, while fire gets their Combustion, their big 2 minute cooldown, reduced by 3 seconds every proc, plus a 15% damage bonus for 7 seconds, which is doubled to a 30% damage bonus for 14 seconds when casting Combustion. Meanwhile Frost shoots a Frostbolt Volley at their target, and “up to 8 additional targets” so in single target they shoot one extra Frostbolt? And thats it? Seriously? Their lowest damage spell aside from Blizzard? Beyond that, if that random Frostbolt Volley can consume Winter’s Chill stacks, it is going to screw up the ability to set up properly and align with things like Comet Storm for their actual hard hitting spells like Ray of Frost and Glacial Spike.

I seriously hope these changes do not go through, they ruin the playstyle of Frost Mage and ruin what makes it fun.

Believe me, duder, we know. Lmao. The whole game is cooked right now. Developers do not care. I think they want to have the game ported to console soon for the “end of life stage,” which they can only do if they remove the need to crowd control and just have us spam instants or a couple of buttons instead.

It’s gross and sickening what they have done. I am not sure if they have fired developers at the top or if this is a borrowed powered problem or what, but DF was so much better. Especially the first season and some of the later seasons for M+.

I do not PvE, actually pretty much never have, but I am thinking about trying M+ because they have ruined PvP this expansion. Too many game modes to balance, too many non-complimenting comps that used to work easily, like RMP is a disaster with the cleaving, not fun to watch your rogue secret technique or play with a mage who does not cancel excess frost/fire/empowerment and other spells that break 6 second CC. We used to be able to push Duelist to Glad as RMP without having to be worried about each and every one of our spells breaking crowd control or worry about being able to do enough damage if we do decide to cancel our procs that would break polymorph or other CC. If someone over at the WoWs balancing team does not get smart, the game will be completely dead in 10 years, give or take 10 years.

Unless they release WoW2 or make some huge changes, I am not buying the Midnight expansion, and I think people should commit and do the same, especially if they have been paying for TWW, logging in, and not even getting to enjoy the game they play.

I am a Frost Mage who hates Frostfire animations, and I have been on the top 10 of ladder 2v2 every season for the entire existence of PvP (except the expansions I chose not to play). This is the first expansion I’ve tried to play and could not even play. The only expansion that was close to this bad was Cata, and luckily I was still able to play Cata because I gritted my teeth and succumbed to spamming Ice Lance and other horrible play mechanics like stacking mastery in PvP.

Some of my characters are Frostyownz, TTVFungames, FungamesTTV, Levin-Vek’nilash, Etc. I had some other names too. I broke my ring finger in 2009 on my left hand, and I have not been able to push a good rating since, especially in 3s, but was on track for Gladiator in S7 or S8. Check-pvp does not show all my characters because my main account got banned and I have my current account hidden as best as I can. I do not understand why we are even nerfing Spellslinger? Like, I do not want to play Frostfire at all, and I can’t dig these changes they are making. I am praying they will even make an official Frost feedback thread or speak with PvP community members about their changes. Spellslinger gets no love, and all I have been able to do is login, change enchants and theory craft with my 1300 rated friends to find a compromise, and afk when my game bugs out or I get OCD about my UI/addons.

Really, addons should be illegal. They add too many complications to the game. I probably afk 20x from UI issues/settings/spec changes. Just give everyone a cookie cutter specification, with cookie cutter UI and gear supported by Blizz balanced by R1s, not a team over at HQ. I am 200 ‘rating’ lower every season than I should be because I afk 20% of my dang games from little issues that most gladiators do not let bug them because they have no OCD like I do. Then they say “just adapt, bro,” like no, adapting is a fake phrase used and spread by corporations to inflict the most control. Adapting is supposed to be a natural evolutionary process, not something forced on us when corpos make changes we do not like. If you are forced to adapt when you do not want you, you create products and industries that will lack/fall behind for several years while the other pieces of the puzzle catch up. I have reasons for every industry, and often times they just revert the changes/issues they’ve created or develop new systems to go back to the old ways, like with Adobe Flash and Rive.app. I hope to God NBA figures it out soon and restores the ability to handcheck. They likely will not, as they are pushing superbowl numbers these days in their NBA finals. This adapt mentality should be criminal to spread and say! Yes, if you want to be successful in an industry, you are forced to adapt, but it creates terrible experiences and tons of frustration for the end users, the poor-to-middle class who are slaves and interact with these systems.

No one will ever notice because they are too busy keeping themselves poor instead of speaking out against extreme capitalism. They 100% know what they are doing too. NBA commissioner never played a game of basketball at college level in his life; he just cares about profits. Steve Jobs was the same way, claiming security vulnerabilities to kill Adobe Flash.

By the way, I have reasons for every industry; just ask me about them cous’.
