With the proposed 11.1 change to revert excess frost cooldown reduction to 5 seconds, I’m concerned about the viability of my preferred mythic+ build, the ignite-living bomb build. I thoroughly enjoy the skill expression of this build in AOE situations, where play revolves around maximizing meteor/comet storm casts in each pull. Being able to stack firefall procs and meteor casts have been especially critical during add components to boss fights such as Avanoxx, Blightbone and Amarth, damage buff fights such as Chopper Redhook, and the shield break of Skarmorak. While this cd stacking might still be possible, it will come at a significant damage throughput cost, holding onto procs/casts.
Having seen how changes to cooldown reduction impact the viability of this playstyle in the Siren Isle patch launch, a priority damage-focused viable alternative in AOE situations is at significant risk. Other changes to both the hero and fire talent trees can be played around, and I think these changes will further showcase intelligent play and skill expression from those mages who enjoy this playstyle, but I think the impact on meteor cooldown reduction will effectively kill it.

there is no such change listed in the development notes
Show us where the mage showcased you
You can find it in the 11.1 datamined class changes post Dec 19 on wowhead.
If it’s been reverted to the current 10 seconds again, I have not seen it anywhere.
It’s just a bad tooltip / faulty datamining
The worse change is how they changed the proc for excess buff, truly ridiculous.
Not a fan of the mage changes overall, especially for fire and frostfire
The change to 5s is now going into PTR. I’m hoping they see how harmful it is in practice.

it is really not, on the ptr the meteor casts were at a serious risk of getting out of hand
I think the bigger problem is going to be the new PF economy bottlenecking your ability to use the procs. Waiting on PF to recharge → can’t use Excess Frost → can’t use excess Fire. And then any new Frostfire Empowerment procs will mean you can’t use FFB without wasting/overriding the procs you were waiting on PF to use. I dunno, FF Fire is sounding kinda frustrating to play, when Sunfury is arguably way easier to play and looking better.
I can’t wait for Sunfury Fire mage. It feels simple but dynamic. And it’s my perfect fire mage fantasy
