1:10 alliance vs horde

On Raider io as the time of posting this. Top 100 guilds worldwide there are only 11 alliance guilds. The best alliance guild is 7/10 from OCE servers and best US alliance guild is still 5/10. There are 9 alliance guilds killed more than 3 bosses and 61 horde guild is 4/10 at this time. Do I need to give the “data scientists” at blizzard a short tutorial on how to look at data? How can blizzard keep suggesting that the population between alliance/horde world wide is roughly balanced? Do they even look at active players, participations for specific content? It’s the same story in m+, arenas, rbgs, wpvp. We may never see cross server mythic raid this tier. I guess in front of faction change profit none of this matters. $$$ numba 1

and yet those guilds and all of mythic raiding is less than 1%, not on the radar for blizzard or real players

And what about world pvp? With or without war mode on I see a bunch of more horde tagging mobs than alliance.

Alliance to horde ratio of rated pvp ladder participation is 25% to 75%

But alliance has a lot of non endgame players so it evens out… or something

Depends on the server. Some servers things swing wildly in the other direction. We’ll see how thing change in the future, right now though they’re fine if the playerbase is 70% casual, and 72~% of that casual population is on the alliance side.

Nobody disputes that there are more high-endgame content players on Horde than Alliance.

The thing is… is that a problem? We’re constantly being told that such players are the minority in this game.

Blizzard has repeatedly said that the player populations are roughly even. Realmpop gave similar numbers when it was collecting data (a 52/48 H/A split).

People like to rage at the wrong targets about this. They rage at Blizzard, they rage at the Horde, they rage at everyone except the people causing the issue: The many, many, many Alliance players who refuse to do high-end content.

Take it up with them.

When you say “alliance players” don’t like to do end content. Who caused this? Are people destined to be horde when they are born? Or it’s blizzard cultivated an environment where horde had an advantage in end game content at some point of the game?

Yep, tried out Alliance this expansion and faction changed to Horde this week because there’s a large group of alliance players that want to “raid” or do higher keys, but not put any effort in either learning the content, mechanics, or even the basics of their own class.

Obviously this happens to both factions, but holy hell it’s a HUGE issue for Alliance. The difference in the few days I’ve swapped over is night and day.

The issue lies more within the fact that there is a general community perception–and has been for years–that if you want to do “serious” content that you should do so on the horde.

The alliance is more than capable of tackling the same content it’s just that many of the raiders fell prey to that perception and switched factions, yielding a relatively smaller pool of players to recruit into mythic guilds on alliance, which exacerbated the issue. It’s a scenario where perception becomes reality over time.

It’s a silly scenario but it’s the one that’s currently present within the game.

From BC onwards, Horde was the preponderance of high-end raiding guilds even though Alliance was the majority of the playerbase until BfA.

I’d proffer that Horde attracted older players, and RPG veterans, at the start, since it was something new and different (instead of more humans/gnomes/dwarves like previous RPG’s), and that led to Horde having more structure in organized activities. But that’s entirely anecdotal on my part and I don’t have any data regarding it.

The one any only reason i’m alliance right now is because i found a guild with great raid times. I would much rather be on horde side as i had always been up to this point.

Cross faction PvE really should be a thing outside of just cutscenes.

Alliance is the naturally more popular faction. That’s why pops are apparently roughly balanced despite blizzard adding blood elves to Horde and for years incentivizing end game players to faction change due to racials.

Unless Blizzard announced today that WOW population is balanced around Mythic Raiders, then your data is pointless, Blizzard hold the real population data and they said it’s pretty balanced.

That’s the funny thing about the General Discussion forum: People are constantly telling everyone that Mythic raiders don’t matter, and that the game shouldn’t be designed around them… until the Alliance/Horde participation ratio comes up, and then suddenly Mythic raiding is the most important thing in the world.

Wouldn’t be the first time. Crucible of Storms in BFA was never cross-realm-able when relevant because Alliance couldn’t clear it.

They’re too busy harassing their coworkers into suicide to look at data.
