Hello,
i would love to ask someone way more knowledgeable than im about my “issue”.
Ive recently upgraded my gpu from 2060 to 4070ti super. I was running only full hd 60hz monitor for it.
My rig is i7 13700k, 32gb ram, 990sams. pro 1t m2 ssd and above mentioned 4070ti S. Ive had the same rig with 2060 so the gpu was a massive upgrade.
With basic nvidia FrameView without a cap i was pushig constantly over 400fps and around 700fps looking at the sky if that makes some difference with the new gpu in 1080p if uncaped in options. Its an overkill i know and those fps are useless, but im just mentioning it for the reference.
So with these numbers ive told myself that im gonna need to upgrade the monitor too.
So ive bought 1440 alienware 360hz 27" oled monitor. Its another massive upgrade let me tell you. But in wow specificaly…my fps even if uncapped went from the sky high in 1080 to sturggling to break 60-70fps in towns and 120-130 while looking at the sky. Except the hardware i havent changes anything in settings except resolution to quad hd.
Me, basicly knowing jack about pcs, got a bit confused. I was ofc expected a fps drop since it will be a bigger load for gpu…but at max i was expecting like 20-30% drop. This feels like ive upgraded everything and im back where ive started since my old 2060 was comfortably pushing 60fps too …but now i have bigger and expensive monitor.
My questions is, is this normal fps drop? Is 1440 realy that gpu killing? Or is there anything in my pc or wow settings setup inccorectly that could cause this. Again i havent changed any settings except resolution after changing screens. Playing in windowed mode btw. Thanks for the tips.
Similar PC to you. I got an i7 14700F, 32 GB DDR5 ram, RTX 4070 Ti Super. I have the AW2725DF Alienware OLED monitor as well. I run 1440p at well over 200 fps if I wanted, though I lock it at 60 fps, and that’s good enough for me. I have every single setting cranked to the max. I never drop fps, not even in Stormwind. I’m not an expert, though it can be hard to troubleshoot over a forum post like this.
Thats wierd. We have basicaly identical setup but youre pushing what i was expecting honestly. Im on overal graphic settings 9 not even maxed out and my pc struggling. (Edit:well stuggling is a stong word since the game runs smoothly even with these “low” fps, but i was expecting more and i havent even tried to run some raid ot dung to realy tests the graphic card)
Basicaly what im asking is if there isnt any like magical button in wow that will oneshot gpu like this. Some ray tracing or lumen stuff. Ive also enable the hdr thingy in pc settings if that changes anything. Idk. My other game in terms of fps have expected like 15% ish drop.
I wish I could help out more, but as I’ve mentioned before, it’s a bit difficult for me over forum posting. I can’t off the top of my head think of any one setting that could be hindering your performance this bad.
Couple of questions for ya.
When you upgraded the GFx card, did the driver get updated with a CLEAN INSTALL? Also, what you could consider doing is resetting your in-game settings to default then adjust to your feeling and happiness level. This way, you’ve removing any old stuff, putting new stuff in and adjusting the game to fit your desires.
Yes, ive uninstalled the old one and got new one after.
And yes ive tried to reset the graphic stuff to default. Didnt change anything in terms of fps.
Ive tried it in cata classic and there np 200+ fps in raid.
But on retail…outside city 128, in the city 80 fps. My gpu goes on 40% idk why i have the fps uncapped in options. Cpu basicaly idling on 11%, so i guess there isnt any bottle neck going on.
Base game quality on 9. Ray tracing off… no change gpu and cpu idling…
This is exactly what it was doing for me when ive had capped fps during the old pc days.
It must be something in the setting but i dont know where or what it could be.
Correct me if im wrong …but shouldnt be GPU sitting on 95%+ all the time if there isnt any cap for fps?
Ok EDIT: i lied. With default setting when i fly out of the city, 400fps and gpu on 97%. Fly to the city- 100fps and gpu 40% wth. I cannot find the “in the city” button. Anyways thanks for the help guys, its just me not beign familiar witht he gpu settings of wow…i havent touched them for years and this is the result…ill go over it now and hopefuly find the little fella thats doing this.
yes going from 1080p to 1440p is a huge increase in pixels . its about 80 percent more pixels. lots of things can affect it. would need more information like make and model of the motherboard. and make and model of the card
