Anyone else find it kind of strange that we spent a bunch of time in 10.2 in questing dealing with the “Prophet of Flame,” a night elf druid of the flame who was advising Fyrakk and leading the druids. Then we kill him right outside the temple, and inside the temple there’s a “Seer of Flame” basically fulfilling the same story role who we never ran into outside (extra strange, since storywise the Druids of the Flame couldn’t get into the temple until Fyrakk broke the barrier at the end of the story, so the Seer of the Flame should have been on the outside as we went through all the outdoor plot). And of course, “Prophet” and “Seer” are words often used synonymously. They even made a point of showing off how they both like to transform into a fire bird, a core part of the raid encounter as you give chase between platforms.
I have a theory that the Prophet of the Flame and Seer of the Flame were supposed to be the same person, but the quest design team had some mishap in communication with the raid design team, went their own way and had us kill the Prophet in the outdoor quest line, and the raid design team was like, “uh, we just designed this big fight with the Prophet of Flame… guess we’ll just change out the name and give him a new title of Seer of the Flame?”
Second-to-last boss and there’s zero content with him in the plot leading up to the raid, but a bunch of quest moments with the basically identical Prophet that built the Prophet up. I think they were meant to be the same person and the name switch was to cover someone’s screw-up coordinating the teams.
I’m kind of disappointed how they just tossed the prophet to the side, TBH. They made him out to be the brains of the operation, then just brush him aside in the story quest. It’s an interesting decision to say the least.
Yup, then in the instance, they have the Seer of the Flame talking to Smolderon to keep him enthusiastic about killing the mortals in a similar way to how the Prophet of Flame spoke to Fyrakk outside.
I really think they were meant to be the same person originally.
That’s honestly pretty plausible. I was surprised when we killed him outside too, since I had glanced at the raid journal and knew there was a prophety type flame druid boss in there and assumed it was him while going through the questline.
Yeah, might also be that the quest team felt like they needed some big kill outside the instance to justify having like every hero of the Horde and Alliance factions show up.
It’s a pretty weird dynamic between the quests and the raid. We’ve got Jaina, Thrall, Khadgar, Mekkatorque, Bane, etc. all outside the instance, as Fyrakk rushes in to corrupt the world tree. And none of them follow us in to help, aside from Tyrande, Merithra and a few vendors to repair / upgrade equipment inside the instance.
The dynamic in the raid also makes it feel like Fyrakk’s been ahead of us for a while. One entire wing is already corrupted by fire. The dynamic with the quest chain though makes it seem like Fyrakk’s basically lost all of his army except Igira and is barely a step ahead of us, with us right on his tail, and all the good guy armies ready to rush in.
