Ok, this isn’t some copium post, But i quickly downloaded the PTR to check something in the new emerald dream Zone and Amirdrassil.
So here is the thing, Amirdrassil is totally going to be in the Dragon Isles when all is said and done and it is totally going to be the new Night elf capital city, but, I still think it is in the realm of possible, if the devs wanted so, for the new tree to be, at least lorewise on a similar spot to where Teldrassil was.
As many have pointed out, the new tree and zone while gorgeous and incredibly well done, doesnt show foresight on the team when it comes to why it is important for the kaldorei capital to be on Kalimdor, and many have not reacted well to the idea of it being in the dragon Isles.
But right now the zone is in the emerald dream, and it is a “separate zone” logically to the rest of the dragon isles, what if it would remain that way, a separate zone in an unique zone in space, with the emerald dream bits removed, the skybox updated to be azeroth, and the new capital becomes a spot on the map right close to where Teldrassil was. Some zones in azeroth are already like that (exodar and silvermoon). And Teldrassill was replaced by a painting in the horizon in darkshore, they could add another tree art to the side, and you would have a require loading between kalimdor and Amirdrassil, but it would still be lorewise located next to it, it would make a zone even better by removing the only major downside players have seen it, and It could be made avoiding major costs (I assume).
I may be the minority but I like that the new NE homeland is so far away from Kalimdor. It answers one of my biggest issues with NE’s future survival by still being next to the Horde.
The tree being so far away from the Horde’s bloody claws is a huge benefit and it doesn’t mean the Night Elves can’t still project their presence in Kalimdor. It’s just that their vulnerable civilian population will always be far from the Horde’s genocidal tendencies.
Best case would be to have Emerald dream portals dotted around northern kalimdor for access and transportation between the Dragonisles and Kalimdor.
Kalimdor has been dangled like a carrot on a stick in front of night elf fans forever, since the Burning of Teldrassil. Blizzard is milking it, and probably not gonna put Amirdrassil in Kalimdor for this reason.
Remember their latest quote, “Amirdrassil is one of many homes for the night elves” or whatever… yeah they are gonna tease us with Kalimdor forever just like Gilneas, until its potential is fully milked (but in reality, until night elf fans give up on this depressing story).
Blizzard uses zones to taunt Alliance players (Gilneas, Kalimdor, lordaeron (regardless of whether it’s sensible), Gnomeregan) and never manages to actually provide.
They are not putting it in Kalimdor because that would require an old world revamp and they are using a whole full patch’s budget on this horrific storyline.
Its not going the way anyone wanted it but it does solve some of the biggest problems with Night Elve’s future
Neary every race in this game has the window dressing of being on the brink: Gnomergan, Argus, The Fall of Lordaeron, The destrucion of the Sunwell. It’s always just that: Backstory. At best, you could experience it in WC3.
Here we had a race that has players experience the fall. Were the High Elves the same after the Sunwell? Were the draenei the same after the flight from Argus?
This was the time to drive the night elf story forward, but the cdev team ran from that opportunity to the peace and safety of the status quo.
Firstly.
That was not my question, I asked you what you have them do… lets hear it, its easy to criticize without following it up with solutions.
Secondly the difference between those races and the Night Elves is that the threat to the Night Elves is very much still present and strong as ever. The full force of the scourge led by Deathknight Arthas is not currently still chilling 20 minutes from downtown Silvermoon.
If the Horde was completely dismantled and their threat reduced to roaming bands of disorganized mess then you would have a point.
Don’t get me wrong. The Tree’s solution of a “Home” is not the problem it is fixing, the problem it is fixing is providing a credible defense against the Horde.
Either the Horde had to be dismantled or the Night Elves had to move. And looks like Blizzard has decided to move the Night Elves.
Let’s see, maybe no new tree. A society divided between Night Elf fundamentalist groups, and those who have assimilated into Stormwind during their exile.
A decentralized population that lacks a capitol. Living in camps, caravans and hidden enclaves across Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms. A marked loss of power in the cult of Elune and the removal of Tyrande as a leader.
Or just grow a new tree and don’t change anything.
The new world tree is not going in Kalmdor for a very simple reason: They are not revamping the old world right now or in the near future. They designed Dragonflight for Amirdrassil from the beginning, it was baked into the land design and flow.
That is really all there is to it, at the end of the day.
So more Alliance killing Night Elves instead of Horde and permanent refugees on Stormwind streets.
Eliminate what they have left to their identity.
And remove long-established characters.
Between your idea of breaking the Night Elves further rather than building them back up again.
Yeah definitely boring tree is probably best. But if they were growing the new tree in Kalimdor I would agree with
But the leaders who was in charge of society collapse has a solution that near guarantees future immunity, maybe even immortality.
Not bad. Its either that or… dismantle the Horde.
