How is it complicated to understand in terms of how this new way of gearing works? When blizzard has uploaded two separate articles about it and an in game explanation of how it works.
I hope that blizzard stay with this new way of gearing since it differentiates each gear path. And can be identified by many players in this game.
I think the articles they posted overcomplicated the gearing system, honestly. It seemed like this crazy, daunting system a-la the PoE skill tree or Atlas tree or something but in reality it’s the same thing as before, except expanded a bit.
It’s really not that hard to understand in practice, though. Flightstones are just your new Valor, and Crests are just the Primal Infusions we had before except they work on everything, not just crafted gear.
Multiple different naming conventions, currencies, crafting materials, and upgrade ranks. I can’t tell if Champion 3/8 is better than Whelping 4/8 just by looking at the names. However I could easily tell rank 5/13 was worse than 8/13 from Season 1’s Valor upgrades.
Also, it’s the most casual friendly gearing system due to the fact that it gives resources in all content albeit open world (world quest, world event, world boss, rare elites, treasure chest, and community events) or dungeons / mythic plus or LFR / raids.
I normally struggle a little with systems like this, but I feel blizz did pretty good dunking my head in the information toilet and giving me a swirly. I even used a crest to upgrade my gear.
It’s not that it’s complicated to understand. It’s complicated to execute. How complicated is that to understand?
It basically breaks the tier into 3 gearing tiers with no way to upgrade between them. So there is no upgrading gear as you progress, at least to a point. It’s go out and farm it all again.
And here’s something to think about.
It probably would have been easier to let us upgrade the same piece of gear all the way through. You still have to go get the higher level upgrade tokens for higher level upgrading.
But that’s not what they did. They said, go get that piece of gear again. Real hamfisted solution to making gear progression take longer. Which makes me suspect… back to a 8 month long tier.
I did the 5 heroic dungeons weekly and got a 415 cloak . I upgraded it to 424 using drake crests I got from Zaralek rares. It was neither hard nor complicated.
Last week quest rewards including world quests scaled to your item level and were rewarding 385+ gear…
This week: same quest, now 375 green gear that you have to “upgrade” just to get it to the level it was last week. Makes you wonder how these people that make these decisions got the jobs they have.
I don’t like getting a bunch of pieces of gear that I feel I might need later once I get enough upgrade currency.
Plus people get and waste currency on explorer gear because they get so much of it, even though fully upgraded explorer gear is very little improvement over what they currently have.
It’s just another system we didn’t need. They overcomplicated it.
All they had to do was keep Valor, but allow us to earn it through all forms of content at different rates. Then use the new types of gear.
It’s literally that simple. They had no reason to use these crests to overcomplicate the system other than to timegate things that didn’t need a timegate.
The crests literally only exist to timegate and people don’t seem to understand that. They exist ONLY to timegate the high end players. That’s their only purpose. Flightstones is just Valor re-named, with a lower limit, just the limit is at one time instead of a season limit. All they had to do was leave it Valor.
