Has anybody tried the Mage Tower for Shadow since 10.1 has released and had success? All guides are for 10.0.7 or older and the talents aren’t matching up since there was a significant change to the Shadow talent tree. I saw people posting saying the Void Tendril damage was bugged but I think that has been fixed. Feel like I even nerfed myself trying to avoid Mind Spike now to use Mind Flay.
I haven’t had chance to update things but I’ve been back in to check if it was doable. It’s harder because cthun isnt just soloing the fight with broken scaling, but it plaays pretty much the same. I ran the Raid + Crash build from the talent guides.
Thanks for taking a look at it. Wanted to make sure it was a skill issue and not something was broken and it wasn’t doable now. I’ll try running it with that build.
I was curious about this too, how the rework changed the difficulty of the Spriest fight. I was able to down it with very little issue after 7 attempts very shortly after it became available again post DF launch. Still having the same gear I used, I tried it again for whatevers and found it to be quite more difficult. I tinkered with some builds before I found one that worked best for me. Was able to down it 4 or 5 more times after that. So it’s definitely still doable. Best of luck.
I definitely see it as doable, I just need to get my consistency down. I get more frustrated with the fact I have to go through the RP every time I go into the challenge. Wish it was like the Disc challenge where you can start it directly when you are ready.
Oh yeah, the RP at the start was annoying. Having the option to skip it at the start would be nice, for those that don’t want to hear it after the 20th / 50th / 100+ times doing it. After the umpteenth attempt on some of the fights, I just turned my dialogue down and used that time to set Karam as focus and set up colored markers for where to keep the mobs. While not necessary, I’m a visual reference kind of person, especially when the anxiety kicks in. Seeing the markers helped me with knowing to try and keep Karam and the adds on that side of the area so as to keep the rune circle area clear. And putting a marker on Karam to keep track of his whereabouts amongst the masses of adds when attacking the Hand or Raest helped, too.
I think I’m going to have to give up on this for the time being. I got Raest down to 1% for one attempt and not have been having luck repeating that attempt. Maybe I need better trinkets or something.
Gear absolutely isn’t a requirement to do the challenge. The more damage you can do, the less of the final phase you’ll have to do (Timings on the guide should still be completely accurate just not how to handle it) but there’s no dps check with the fight that requires XYZ item to overcome.
The biggest tip I can give is that in the final phase you don’t need to strictly swap to the hands. You just need to dot them (With VT or crash) and single target raest whilst interrupting or dispersing the first hand cast. It’ll be dead before the second finishes every time.
Whiny stuff
Edit: Reread your guide. Going to have another go at it.
Unfortunately nothing with regards to talents is updated, that being said the general strategy worked fine still. Honestly I think the psychic link change made the last phase easier because of how much damage you do to the hands without having to get off the boss.
I don’t know. There’s obviously something you two did right and I’m doing wrong but I’m not sure what it is.
The fight is a PITA, imo, with having to juggle so much stuff. inb4 someone says “it wasn’t that hard for me. git gud” not everyone is equally skilled. Where some struggle with ‘easy’ others blow through it with no trouble. As for me, that particular challenge was always a PITA. I did it back in Legion on aff lock, frost mage, and 2 balance druids. When it became available the 2nd time around last part of SL, I struggled. I deleted a Spriest and frost mage out of frustration over the fight after hundreds of attempts.
It wasn’t until it came back around the 3rd time post DF launch with the new talent trees that I was actually able to down it. Having C’thun and Yogg helped greatly with that extra damage on the bosses as Psychic Link did its thing with the adds.
Yeah I did this challenge back during legion for Shadow, warlock, mage, and Boomkin. Not going to lie I did the Surrender to Madness cheese for Shadow but I did it normal for the others. I think what’s aggravating me is that I’ve done the Guardian Druid and Arms Warrior challenge in DF and they weren’t nearly as hard as this has been. At this point I think I need to see a video of somebody doing this in 10.1 to benchmark myself. Not sure if I’m doing enough damage to Raest in his first damage phase to set myself up for success during the final phase and the positioning of everything else.
Edit: Finally got it. And I was right, watched an old stream video of Ellipsis doing the MT Challenge with bad talents and made me realize my positioning was bad, so once that was fixed only took one or two more tries.
Congrats on finally getting it! (this is Aleanora btw. Was finally able to swap characters to my main for forum posting) I know it’s a feel good feeling, knowing you don’t have to do the fight again. Unless you want to. Then that sweet sweet mog. Definitely my favorite out of all the others.
Okay but has anyone had the glitch where you stand in the rune for the Thing of nightmare and it’ll disappear and then randomly pop back up and immediately spawning the mob? It’s happened to me at least a few times. Also I don’t understand how people are immediately getting Raest down to half after they get his brother down. People are saying it’s not a gear issue but it’s kinda feeling like a gear issue even though I’m in tier pieces with a few bis trinkets and rings. I feel like they definitely nerfed the shadow priest portion of the fight, and having to rely on void crash for dots feels horrible. It’s the base issue with Shadow Priest right now, having one ability to manage dots can’t possibly be healthy.
The exact order you press your buttons going into the first burn makes a huge difference. No consumables and just normal df gear I was able to get 64% on raest. With pot lust food rune flask I can easily see in the 50s.
For those of you just after the mog i found the disc MT to be MUCH easier. Might just be me though.
