10.1 expected shadow dps, higher or lower than current?

Ive been trying to test this, but SimC seems broken as the numbers are way off, and trying to actually test it using details addon on the PTR also appears broken.
Does anyone have an actual expectation of shadows dps with the changes or an alternate way to try to determine this?
Im really trying to decide which ranged hybrid to invest my time in before 10.1

it doesn’t really matter so far the rework doesn’t really address any of the issues folk have with shadow, button bloat is still there aoe is still janky and the capstones are still mostly just passive effects that don’t change how we play.

Thank you but to me it kinda does
i need to know if its still viable issues aside.

Not sure what you mean - they made Shadow Crashes cooldown 20 seconds. That or giving it 2 charges was basically 75% of the negative feedback for Shadow.

Yes, and i personally found i was doing slightly netter on original parses before the latest changes but there seems to be a great deal of doom and gloom so i wonder what im missing or dont fully understand and am looking for anyone that might know better then i where we look to fall.

well considering the amount of posts, the amount of high end spriest players all talking about how this rework hasn’t solved anything and even some folk asking for it to be canceled all together? not only that but taking 10 sec off SC doesn’t solve the spriest aoe issues lol

Guys with respect im not trying to rehash everything on the forum, just get an answers for what level of dps i should expect against current
 lower same or higher

It’s going to be slightly better!

Thank you thats what im looking for. My testing suggested this but all the doom and gloom made me wonder.

Where did Blizzard state that capstones are meant to be class-defining?

I’ve done some testing on the PTR with different builds and there’s one build I’m really liking that sustains about 215K dps on the pack of dummies in Valdrakken (with season 2 tier and new trinket). I’m enjoying the play style - not so much reliant on mind sear proc RNG for good aoe anymore. I think Shadowcrash still needs to be reworked somehow. I would prefer 2 charges of it with a 30 sec CD rather than just a flat 20 sec CD.

Excellent feedback, and i agree completely.
I do think Sear should remain in the old style as a builder to offset the insanity generation and reliance on shadow crash for AoE, but thats just my 2 cents.

Yes I agree, they should just make mind sear into a generator like previously. Plus it would still be able to sustain our dots on every target. Mental Decay seems redundant now unless it’s for ST, but even then it’s useless. They need to sync Psychic Link with Mental Decay somehow, because Shadow Crash is just too unreliable and one missed drop, you’re screwed

As far as damage goes shadow should be perfectly viable, the rework was just that it changed how shadow does damage, but many of the issues shadow had weren’t damage ones.

Personally I’m moving on from shadow priest this patch because I was playing it because I enjoyed it prerework and the things they changed just left the pain points and removed some of the things I enjoyed. If I stayed on it my damage would probably be fine, its just my interrupt is still 45 second cd, unless I lose most of my aoe damage or dispersion, my stops basically end at shackle and scream, and my mobility in pve is somehow worse.

Shadow’s damage type became a bit more target capped, and its mobilty moved a bit closer to that destruction warlock place where the damage is fine if the game lets you turret. Its also aesthetically nerfed since there is a very real world where we’re running no flay, no void form and our only spell animations are torrent and ghosts.

My breaking point though is they didn’t fix the utility nodes at the top which is the biggest easy fix they could have had, and one they’ve done for most classes with this issue, for example ret and balance druid had similar issues and they actually did something but I guess adding more priority on stops and locking down trash in m+ goes hand in hand with having classes that can’t do basic interrupts. I also am outright dreading the future of being a turret caster since the rework did away with a lot of our ability to move via stutter stepping without loss, I’m not going back to spamming shadow word pain while moving I’ll just move to a caster that can handle movement. Doesn’t help that the rework double downs on this by nerfing insanity every week.

Rip spender mindsear and dot extensions.

Tuning will be happening just like S1 throughout the opening of Raid. It’s too early to tell in all honesty.

This. I’m very much contemplating if I’ll be playing Spriest next season. The whole “rework” is very discouraging. I don’t care about the damage as long as it’s competitive, I just want it to feel nice to play.

For me, Shadow Priest is losing a lot of what made it interesting. In 10.1 it’s just another turret caster.

It irks me to no end that they’re making the least mobile caster somehow LESS mobile. I haven’t looked into any of the fights in the new raid, but i’d almost guarantee they’re full of movement

This, right here, is the big kicker for me.

i demand a higher dps. i started playing this alt a bit. but this takes time. so i play as shadow. once you know the basic, then you move on.
