Imo it should be a lot more than $10 and at most 2 days early. Definitely not 2 weeks. All in all though I think this would be better than sharding.

I would pay 100 to get in 2 days early.
11/10/2018 11:51 AMPosted by KosumiThat’s a sloppy solution. It assumes that the population difference between a “VIP” wave (or a non-VIP wave) and an “everyone” wave would be big enough to completely eliminate sharding, which is impossible to gauge properly in advance.
It’s not an alternative to sharding, it’s just a dubious deluxe edition layered on top.
Thing is the strongest argument for sharding is the 'tourist' argument, a large influx of people (likely current subs) who just want to check it out and will leave soon after creating dead servers.
Some sort of upfront fee to declare yourself a longer-term classic player and spread out the launch population makes alot of sense. We know how much Blizz love their value-added services.

Carefull there, you are about to be acused of hating retail players and that you want entitled segregation.
I happen to complelely agree with the idea. A small fee for even 2 days of early access to the servers would do wonders to combat bloat and subsequent hollowing out of server pops.
Sadly, the players who are getting classic at no additional charge will melt down if they do not get exactly the same thing as those paying solely to play classic.

Yeah, you’re right. Two weeks is too much. Maybe three days would be better (and you get a pet!). Blizzard should LOVE this idea!
This is a really terrible idea. I thought the issue people had with sharding was that they wanted to see dozens upon dozens of players logging on at launch. They want to see the server overloaded with players. This solution does the opposite and segregates people the same as sharding only it's done behind a dumb timed paywall. Seriously, how is this any better than sharding?
Sounds good to me. Can I also get a 2% XP Boost and a free special level 40 mount with that? I mean - for $10 I want a little more than just what you offered.
I like it, though.
I like it, though.
The OP was a well crafted semi-troll, but the underlying truth is there.
While a shared sub makes a lot of business sense, its the main thing that will necessitate sharding - very little hurdle for retail to take a tour. People that want a more faithful classic shouldn't have to pay the price for that. Classic should be about courting the players that left, that prefer the original experience.
They could buy a lot of goodwill from this population (and make some money in the process!) if they were able to avoid sharding through price discrimination. Retail players would still be getting all this content for free - just after a short delay.

Best suggestion I've seen so far.

It is indeed a good suggestion. It has been brought up in the past, but many retail players who are getting cost-free classic shouted it down because ~reasons~
11/10/2018 06:07 AMPosted by CharaxTo create a temporary barrier to these short-term tourists, Blizzard could offer a $10 VIP that would allow us sole access to the Classic servers for two weeks. That should make the initial launch populations more reasonable and perhaps Blizzard would also get a better handle on the required number of servers based on this “semi-hard core” interest.
Until you factor in tokens.

So? Let them blow a token on something they are not certain they want, and that they would be getting for free a couple days later.
I fully support this idea. Gives Blizzard more money and gives us what we want(no sharding!)

I don’t think we need excessive clogging of the servers from short-term tourists. It adds nothing to our experience. Let them sit on the sidelines for a few days.
having a VIP pass wasn't a thing in the original game

Here's an idea, anyone who ever posted the "Wall of No" be permabanned from classic. I've seen a few lurking on the classic forums so that cold thin the herd a bit.

i'm gonna play both, other games in the Battle.Net client, Steam, or otherwise and you're powerless to stop me

The vanilla players don't need to be first, you already had that chance, final access should only be granted after first wave have hit 60.
Stop treating yourselves as being above everyone else.

isnt cash for preference kind of like a pay to win scenario?
Its just blows my mind that every single person who doesn't want sharding because it splits up the community can only think of other ideas to split up the community.
Make it make sense.
Edit: Shouldn't say every so I'll go with most players instead.
