10 man vs. 25 man Raid

As a Guild GM I have a question I haven’t been able to find an answer for…

Last night we had 13 Guild Members do the Day 1 Raid. We did it as a 25 man Raid because we had more than 10 players. However, the question remains, should we have run it as a 10 man Raid with the Bosses getting a buff for each player over the 10 man limit or run it as 25 man with 12 people less? We seemed to have a very difficult time completing the first boss and being able to move on as we didn’t have enough DPS to kill him down. Is this because we were running in 25 Man Difficulty or do I need to encourage my players to continue to get even higher than the 170 Item Level recommendation? There are conflicting ideas within my Officer Corpse as to what the correct answer is so I would like some other opinions or “facts” to go with. Thanks.

Sorry I didn’t realize that I posted this as my Horde Toon…

current raids no longer have “10 person” or “25 person” difficulty levels. they scale based on the number of players in your raid.

then why are we able to chose 10 man or 25 man and where does Blizzard say that?

are you talking about the choice that appears under the “legacy raid size” text? that applies only to legacy raids that made the 10/25 distinction. does not apply to current raids (or any in the last few expansions)

I see where that is listed as “Legacy raid size” now…thank you for the info Pyri

My guild was running 11man first 2 nights. Got 5/10, and couldn’t get passed council or lady darkvein without adding 1 healer and 3 dps from LFG. Seems 14-15 is the perfect amount. 2/3/9-2/3/10 if you have healers pulling over 3k hps. Good luck to you guys!
