1-Handed Gamer Looking for Targeting Solution

Hi All,

I’m a 1-handed gamer (CP) who uses the turn keys and the mouse with 1 hand. To use spells, I move the mouse button down to the spell bar and click the spells.

This works quite well (for me) as I can move at the same time by pressing arrow keys.

I would love to play a mage; however, my biggest barrier is targeting and TAB targeting.

Does anyone know of an addon, or a solution where I can have static, top-down enemy nameplates/frames and click on them that way? That would be the dream solution.

There’s an addon called “Magic Targets 2” that lays out exactly what I want, but there’s no clicking functionality to any of the frames.

I have tried footpedals (my feet get sore after 100s of tabs), remapping keys (but struggling to reach keys in time to play somewhat effectively), and other nameplate addons (it’s hard to use the mouse, press my buttons and look up/down the screen simultaneously).

Also I would prefer not to play a Hunter.

I know my post is quite specific in what I want, but those are my circumstances.

Any help would be much appreciated.

my dad was an amputee so gaming foot peddles work wonders, and we’d play cod All the time, he used foot peddles. Maintained a 2.2 KD.

Theres also gaming mouses that have the 12 buttons on the side that he would use whenever his feet hurt to bad, you can order the mouse for left handed or right handed.
Hope this helps.

Simple solution is a multi button mouse and the addon vuhdo. It is a healing addon but if you make a target window I’m pretty sure you can also use targeted attack abilities. 7 button mouse and you are cover on most classes. (You can track dots, heals, defuffs, use shift as a modifier ect.)

I would bind tab targeting to mouse wheel up/down and use vuhdo window to do attacks.

In vudo I sometimes have to use the spell number off wowhead to make it use the one I want. You can downrank spell abilities in it also.

Quite degenerate of you. For shame.

Out of curiosity how do you handle it in retail? I notice your forum avatar is a high level retail character.

As to a solution, people have mentioned multi-button mouses in regards to abilities in general, but when it comes specifically to tab-targeting have you tried binding it to the mousewheel (if you have one)
I believe I have seen people before bind tab-targetting to the mousewheel so scrolling up tabs to next target, and scrolling down tabs to previous targeting.
Perhaps something like that might address your current challenge.

There is a controller support addon that will target whats infront of you. Not sure if it works in classic though.

my razer naga mouse does wonders it has about 14 buttons on the mouse. Check it out! it does not have to be that brand. i think other brands make cheaper versions.

I think the only realistic solution I can think of for someone like you is a combination of 2 things.

  1. Foot pedals.
  2. A mouse with more buttons.

After reading your post you definitely have foot pedals, but I think you’re going about using them incorrectly. Let’s say you get one of the Razer Naga, Steel Series AEROX 9, or something similar with a lot more buttons on it than a standard mouse. Then you can key bind your foot pedals to be ALT and SHIFT, and a mouse with 12 keys on it suddenly has 36 potential binds. You can bind the tab to your mouse, all the skills you would need, and give your feet some relief.

My partner has pretty severe carpal tunnel and likes to play 1-handed. We got the Azeron Cyborg and she loves it. Only issue is that it doesnt replace your mouse, so you’d might need to switch back and forth as needed. Just trying to give options! Happy to see you enjoying gaming and I hope you find what works for you!

Razor naga(mmo mouse has hella buttons on it) plus foot pedals maybe?

Best quality ever. Worth the price, lasts longer then other gamer mouses. Can’t go wrong with the brand

Simplest cheapest “voiceattack” on steam if you take the time to set it up it can augment your mouse work to include a great variety of tasks. I personally use it on a flight sim for wingman commands. You could use it to switch to new ability bars and say things like tab to make your computer tab around.

Just don’t make it auto repeat so it goes from help to automated interaction.

The forums is a funny place where people who have no idea about anything love to talk from a very knowledge perspective spewing bs that confuses posters like the OP.

In game:
Options > Combat (under Gameplay) > Enable Action Targeting.

Have to scroll toward towards the bottom… this will swap your target based on where you’re facing.

Pro tip: Never play Rogue, switching targets drops your combo points. And it’s a little sensitive so I’d avoid Hunters where auto shot will accidently pull a mob past the pack you’re fighting and wipe your group before you can react. Felt really fun and interactive with Warrior. Safe for mages/ hard casters.

One note was Enable Action Targeting with Action Cam on melee like Warrior. You can try it out with this macro with my personal preferences added:

/console ActionCam full
/console ActionCam focusOff
/console ActionCam noHeadMove

if you don’t like it:

/console ActionCam off

i got into a motorcycle accident and had to only use 1 hand and my favorite class to play is healer is the way i did is i bought the razer mouse with 12 buttons on it and had them keybinded and all my spells on mouseover macros it worked for the most part as long as you can stand still and free cast as dps it was alot easier i got a gamepad where you can keybind ctrl alt and shift into it as well as use your 15 keys which included wasd and tab to tab target i tanked as paladin like that tab target works if you manipulate it it will target the closest person to you so you want to try and make the target as single and close as possible for best results

you can also have a action button keybind to your keyboard for me i used F it would highlight the enemy/object in front of me wether it was a quest item fishing node or even mining and herb node i also looted like that with auto loot and use leatrix to set up auto sell junk/auto repair it helped alot to use just the keyboard as it is time consuming and harder in pvp to swap between mouse and keyboard with only 1 hand

Check out Azeron. They’ve got a couple different option you can take a look at, their cyborg ( I use a compact ) and their newest being a Cyro. They are not cheap but maybe something to consider

I use the Cyro. It’s pretty awesome.
