1 fish away from Hyper-Compressed Ocean!

I’m just 1 fish away from getting the Hyper-Compressed Ocean!

Last fish I need is the Displaced Scrapfin, which may take a few days, but that’s OK.

Green Roughy was the most time-consuming and/or frustrating, and I guess I had never noticed how the guy in Bondo’s yard makes fun of people’s mounts, until he started doing it to me, heh.

(I’ve found I’m doing stuff now I thought I would never bother with, which is sorta cool to me, like getting the Pandaria World Boss mounts, etc.)

Congratulations! I love when people drop that thing in the main city, if I’m not mistaken the rare fish drop from there is increased as well

congrats on the future accomplishment.

my one complaint is i cant swim around in a hyper compressed ocean as a Druid.

I am also doing stuff now that I’ve never bothered to do before, like achievement hunting.

I never used to care for achievements but you know… it’s kinda fun. First real one I worked for so far was getting gold in every Dragon race on the isles, all the normal, advanced and reverse courses. I enjoyed it a lot surprisingly.

Yes, I had read that it contains the ENTIRE possible fish/fishing item drop list.

But then I read that it is now more zone-specific since maybe 2019 or 2020?

Hopefully, it is still mostly completely random and wacky.

Including a couple of old fish that were never actually added to the game, now uniquely available to the ocean.

(my only quibble with this questline is that it didn’t involve any actual fishing)

Yeop, it’s supposed to. Although I have never tracked the fishies in mine, so meh.

It is also doable in a day or two, from what I remember. It’ll take some dedication, but tbh, it wasn’t all that bad to do. A very good achievement, tbh. I like the ones like which involve some work and have a decent thing to remind us of it afterwards - and that it’s shareable!

does it? cause I have yet to get anything from newer xpacs

Up to BFA (and I can’t confirm it’s “everything”, but there are things like the Pandaria quest fish that you can get from it)

Maybe it was “entire” at the time it came out, was that Legion? I forget…

Honestly, I don’t know, as I’m seeing conflicting comments/info. about it.

The more possible stuff, the better, in my opinion…

idk why but I didn’t do the best friend thing with margoss or the other legion fishing dudes. It’s the only fishing thing I haven’t done. Now it seems too annoying to go back for without the big 40m fishing groups there were before.

This. It’s also pretty great to drop the Orb in the front of Org next to the AH while waiting on a dungeon que to pop. Every single time I do, there are always immediately other Players who run over and start Fishing off of it! I heard you can get the Great Sea Ray Mount out of it, but the odds are incredibly low.

Congrats! Side note, Im with you on doing things I would have never done before, I got AOTC this content and I have never even been interested in raiding. Always PVP for me.

Are you talking about creating a raid group to have everyone come to your Garrison to fish to increase the Minnow catches? I got the Sea Turtle like that, but apparently there are two so I might have to start doing those again.

I can’t remember why but I did that one at the time.

I think you got pets and then those various bobbers (i.e. duck head), from each of the 4 guys, maybe a mount on one of them, and then if I remember the main reason was I wanted to get the recolor option on the Underlight Angler on one of my guys.

Never really been a WoW fisherman, but the Underlight Angler is one of the coolest things in the game in my opinion, and I have it on every one of my guys.

Doing those 4 guys and Margoss now, though?

I doubt I would do that, bummer, sorry.

I forgot about that toy :worried: dang it.

There was a window where, because of CRZs, it actually became common to come across spontaneous mobs of people who just all happened to be doing the fishingfriends.

(I can’t remember how populated it was for my dracthyr was initially fishing for his pole; but I was adding some AP to it a month or so ago and sadly found myself completely alone in the Broken Isles)

Wish they would fix it, its annoying how most its buffs don’t work now.
I guess at least the water walking and become a fish does
but if they aren’t gonna fix the bait time buff and the instantly collect all the pool in legion buff they could at least turn off the catching boots buff.

UPDATE… in case anyone is pursuing the Hyper-Compressed Ocean.

(If pursuing it, this post may save you time, if you have a bad memory, as I do. If not interested in it, don’t read the rest of this…)

What I realized (per Wowhead), when I was one fish away (Displaced Scrapfin) from the Ocean, is that THAT fish only spawns in the “alternate/future Mechagon island”, requiring Chromie to spawn with the quest “The Other Place”.

Problem is, the guy I was working toward doing the Ocean on, had NOT ever been to “The Other Side”, so he would have to wait for Chromie to spawn on Mechagon to get over there. Wowhead was implying Chromie only popped up perhaps monthly for this (I’d forgotten all of this of course).

After two days of having him sitting there and no Chromie, what I did instead was hop on my guy who HAD done lots of Mechagon, and who I remembered HAD been to “The Other Side”, etc. He’d done maybe 90% of the stuff in there, with the exception of the big wheeled mount.

I then re-did the Achievement “Secret Fish of Mechagon” on THAT guy, getting him the Secret Fish Goggles, popping him over to “The Other Side”, and got a Displaced Scrapfin within like 10 minutes.

Anyhoo… if you want the Hyper-Compressed Ocean, which requires completion of the Achievements “Secret Fish of Mechagon” and then “Secret Fish and Where to Find Them”, I suggest doing this on whatever guy you have who has ALREADY been to “The Other Side” in Mechagon, and who made the “Personal Time Displacer” item at Pascal-King. (if you played Mechagon island, in that expansion, you will know what this means)

If you never did that expansion, or Mechagon island, or went to “The Other Side” and made the “Personal Time Displacer” item, then make SURE to be in Mechagon every day and check for Chromie, as Displaced Scrapfin will be the time-gating factor for you. (we all hate those time-gating factors, right?)
