They will explain this as being added to help people better understand their character and to try and take out the necessity of addons and that’s great but we should also be real here, this is being done so when WoW is implemented on console, you can push 1 button on the controller and do your rotation.
- There’s a penalty cooldown on it. So not remotely optimal and meant for open world and disabilities.
- Don’t know if the engine is designed for console. Might be with upgrades. Might not be.
- Does it matter? It either ends up on Xbox or it doesn’t.
Just… casually ignore that several other MMOs, including FFXIV, often manage to support having 24+ keybinds on console with simple button combinations, per the usual.
Big market for it
You can already play WoW on a controller now anyway so I’d like to smoke what OP is smoking.(Source: I currently do )
“Don’t y’all have Xbox?”
Also, consoles reached the point where they could use mouse+keyboard if they really needed to roughly… 20 years ago, I believe. Like, I remember hooking a keyboard up to my 360 to make in-game text chat easier back when Phantasy Star Universe was a thing.
I remember seeing those little keyboard devices you could hook up to the bottom of your controller.
I never had one though lol.
Ain’t no way raids are running at a playable FPS on console. But I welcome WoW coming to console if it forces them to fix performance.
WoW players in 2009: They’re adding dungeon queues so they can port the game to console.
WoW players in 2025: They’re going 1 button so they can port the game to consoles.
Bro, you’re just making sh!t up… consoles have been able to use m/kb and since last generation, so if they were bringing it to console they would just expect those people to use mkb

so if they were bringing it to console they would just expect those people to use mkb
That’s not a realistic viewpoint for a business wanting to get more sales. The game needs to function natively on the platform they’re bringing it to without additional hardware.
That said, WoW already functions with a controller, it’s a just a matter of creating a UI that’s made for it. Currently, many people use the ConsolePort addon if they’re going to go full blown controller, because Blizzard has nothing for it.
Tab Target MMORPGs on a controller is not an impossible thing. It’s been a thing for like decades. Even pre-controller support WoW could handle it. I raided some Tomb of Sargeras during Legion with a controller just for the sake of it.
always the nutjobs thinking a feature meant for the disabled is some conspiracy
It functions on a controller, but you are forced to accept a number of limitations and issues to play the game that way. They would need do something about the egregious amount of ability bloat going on before it’ll be comfortable to play on controller.

you can push 1 button on the controller and do your rotation.
i think everyone is highly overestimating the performance that people will have with one button rotation.
