I just hit 60 on my alt and learned Outland gathering - once I learned the Outland ranks the vanilla mining stopped gaining ranks. It was stuck at 245. I tried dropping the Outland mining, but it dropped all mining and now I’m back a rank 1 of 300 when I picked it back up.
How are you supposed to gain the remain ranks if you can’t go back and access previous gathering skills?
I think Un’Goro Crater is supposed to get you to 295 and there is a Smelting pattern you can obtain in BlackRock Depths which would require you having 2 Star Ruby, 10 Truesilver Bars, and 20 Gold Bars head to Blackrock Depths and head to the the boss room where you fight the 5 dwarves (but do not fight them) talk to Gloom’Rel and he will give you the Smelting pattern for smelting Dark Iron Ore. While your there you may also want to go to Blackwing LAir and down the boss Master Elemental Shaper Krixix for the Enchanted Elementium Bar pattern. the Dark Iron Ore smelting pattern should get you the last 5 LVLs or you can wait till Dark Moon Fair is around.
Anything you gather in Outland only applies to Outland skill ups. To skillup classic mining over 245, you would have had to go back and mine in classic content.
Once you dropped mining, you drop it for all types of mining so would have to relearn both classic and Outland mining.
Unless you have a need for ore from classic to level abother classic level profession, don’t bother with it and just relearn and do Outland mining.
Celticclore - it wasn’t that I couldn’t find anything to gain ranks on - it was that it wasn’t ranking
Nok - I was mining in Winterspring - Small and Rich Thorium, ranks were not happening. I even thought it was just a display bug or something, but no blue text, went to my skill window, checked my rank, mined, check rank again, no skill up.
First thing I would do is open a ticket to try and get your 245 skill restored. Sooner the better.
Second, try Googling a profession leveling guide for mining. Not sure why you weren’t getting skill ups from thorium nodes at 245, but they are likely going to be much more infrequent as you approach 300. The leveling guide should give you guaranteed routes or suggest smelting for skill points.
You may have a bug because I was able to get my mineing on my Paladin to 300 the other day farming Un’Goro to 295 then smelt Dark Iron ore the last 5.
Worst case, do the Darkmoon Faire profession quest. It awards 5 points to classic skill. I know it’s only once a month but it’ll get the job done.
