the old AV is gone forever, literally lost because the source code doesn’t exist. even if blizzard were to remake “old av” they would have to reference the old data (which doesn’t exist) so everything would have to be created from memory which is almost impossible to do. the best we’d get is a spiritual recreation to the best of their abilities but it will never be the original AV.
It’s been what a year since they announced they were using 1.12, and probably over half a year since they posted the sticky clearly explaining the details of what was in 1.12 AV? And why they were using that version?
Yet now people decide to get all up in arms about it?
Do you think blocking people from entering AQ takes the same amount of Dev time as it would to recreate an older version of AV that may not even fully exist anymore?
Yep and tough luck on that, blizzard came the community very early on and tried to have a discussion about what people might or might not want in classic. They were met with a spam of #nochange , well you got your no change and no real dialouge about changes.
I mean blizzard’s stance has been pretty clear, they’re not making any major gameplay changes to 1.12. IE we’re getting time gated content but not changed content.
And that applies to everything, I don’t know why you think AV would be special. We’re getting 1.12 talents, we’re getting 1.12 dungeons, we’re getting 1.12 raids, and yes we’re getting 1.12 AV.
Yes we are, everything that’s released will be the 1.12 versions from what we’ve been told. They’re time gating things, that’s it. You know just like how AV is being time gated until what phase 3? Or just like how say Scholo will be the 1.12 version not the launch version.
It’s not even people from the other side. That guy has been trying to champion every bad blizzard decision, like 1.12 AV, CRBGs, etc, because of sour grapes that a) the wall of no came down, and b) they will not do class balancing he desires.
He is the poster child of sour grapes trolling. If we still had the ignore functionality of they old forum, he would have withered up and blown away months ago.
I only ever played 1.12 AV. I had heard about the landmines, but had no idea there were other npc’s around.
There were several 6+ hour AV’s on the beta this weekend. Would more npc’s just make the AV even longer? Did they mess up the honor gain per hour formula or something?
Orginal AV was very much a slog to get through as there were no real organized groups without Add-ons. So imagine a MC raid of people who just kinda zerged down the path of lest resistance. You might get some stuff done but damn if it wouldnt take FOREVER.
Herding the cats in AV is hard enough. Herding them to make tactical move to take a GY instead of surging to and fro was far worse. In the end the game was more dominated by the NPCs as they were used to break up the stalemates. Things like the Landmines and NPCs kinda funneled the players down the path to the other team making moving around that much more of an issue.
The found remembrance of it was because it was really shut off your brain action movie fun. Load up an AV and go to town on your rival faction all weekend. The streamlining of AV took many forms but much of it was to make it more controlled by the players combat. Though the players combat tactics never really changed until the reward structure was changed and AVs speed became something that allowed for more honor than other sources at bonus time.
Most likely, but rep should not be a reason to want 1.12 vs other versions. The rep will come so fast either way it will not make a huge difference.
I personally have no skin in the game. I never liked the long “peel the onion” games because it was never organized and just a random slog. And once I get exalted, even in the 1.12 version, I will probably rarely step foot in it again.
So for those that love the 1.5, 1.6, 1.7, 1.8 or 1.9 versions, I am truly sorry you are not getting what you want. But, the decision has been made and I am afraid it is way too late in the game for Blizzard to change it now.
