it makes no sense to put a jsut dinged toon with only honor gear into 1700+ MMR with 0 gear against full geared players. gear has a hgue impact even if you are decent it doesnt make sense to drop a toon here. start at lower MMR and build to get gear as you go? why does it work this way?!??!?!?1

Stop. 1800 is Elite and less than some low percentage of the WoW playerbase according to a website I visit ever achieve it

Well, the thing with matchmaking is that people can’t start at the absolute floor because there needs to be some room for them to fall.
In games like this the goal is to get people to where they win roughly half of their games as quickly as possible, so if you go 1-5 and then 2-4 you’ll drop a bit but should start winning more.
Inversely if you go 6-0 3 lobbies in a row your MMR pumps to 2200 or so.
This does feel quite horrific between seasons on alts with high mmr, though. I’ll queue a game 5 months into a patch and be 2500 mmr on a char in greens that I haven’t played in almost a year. 
The tldr is that the system is automatic and self-correcting: you just need to play (more).

LOL I mean all this is factual but like starting at 1000 is a nice mid room to drop or climb but like wtf is 1700+ MMR with 0 gear and on a new toon. literally a toxic situation setup to fail for the first few games when everyone realizes you have 0 gear adn jsut trains you all day
Truthfully you are not wrong at all. It sucks. However there is no great alternative. Every possible solution has it’s own issues. Just gotta suck it up and drive on.

1700 is pretty much entry mmr right now.
1k mmr is beating up senior citizens who aren’t even present at their keyboard

I don’t mind the system the way it is, but get some gear before you jump into rated. Starting at higher mmr geared makes a difference
It’s best you don’t play Shuffle if you’re behind on gearing.

Yuh, shuffle terrible for gearing unless you’re already geared and just doing weekly cap or maintaining.

I was already placed in a 2300 MMR Blitz match without having almost any experience with Blitz.
blitz starts you off almost 3k then the specs with no competition finish around 3k

They just need to completely hide cr and mmr until placement games are over. It completely confuses anyone who doesn’t understand it.
Also people don’t seem to grasp that if there’s someone obviously new in your lobby that the entire match is now centered around who can carry this guy. You carry him one round, you win the match. Instead they just want to focus on how they lost a round because of someone in greens, blaming others, as usual.
Ya this is why a lot of games simply do
Avg player can’t understand it not even if it’s explained it extreme detail 
This won’t stop me from firmly believing that every lost round is my fault exclusively.
(And it probably is)
Just roll Ret. You’ll do as much damage as anyone else while in honor gear, and you’ll have 9 defensive CDs to compensate for the HP difference.
