✵ PSA: Undead Paladins are justified in the Lore ✵

Technically we are.

We do what story says like a coded npc.

Bolvar says take the 1 thing jailor wants right into his tower we go ……yes sir.

As a real player…I’d have smacked him upside the head and tell him one more bad idea like that and I’d drop his butt off the side of oribos to float eternally in the in between.

that’s not all a paladin is.

Priests use the light to shoot spells, even just that causes intense pain to forsaken priests but they’re able to bear it due to their devotion.

Paladins take the light into them selves and let it flow through their body, becoming one with it. Can you imagine how much more pain that would cause them?

Now that said, there has been at least one undead paladin, sir zeliek, but a single example does not a class/race combo make.

I’m a fantasy purist, I’m strongly against the idea of undead paladins.

Undead aren’t capable of creating heroes or even new characters really. They’re only capable of taking them from others.

Roots? Isn’t that more a druid thing?

This is now a Forsaken Druid thread.

The most natural thing that a corpse can do is be fertilizer.

Likewise with Night Elf Paladins. We saw them in BfA ffs. You help one of them convert. Idk why they aren’t an in-game thing, making Undead capable to be Paladins, would give both sides a new Paladin-capable race. This needs to be a thing (it would also nix my entire reasons for playing Horde, I can’t vote for this enough XD).

Apples to apples. In order for Priests to resurrect someone, they literally have to do the same thing. Magnify their own connection to the Light, to return a soul to the realm of the living. Anduin Wrynn is a Paladin/Priest Multi-class - he does the same thing at the battle of Lordaeron.

While all of these types of threads have a slight feeling of “Ragnaros could be a Water Elemental” type of discussion, the lore is so bad now that I almost don’t even care anymore.

Everyone should be able to become a Paladin.
Why? Because the Light Crusade is coming, and if you aren’t with us, you’re against us.

So are Void Elf Paladins, but y’all aren’t ready for that conversation.

Void Elves chose the Void. I’m still confused why they allow them to even be Priests, tbh. It doesn’t make sense that they can use the Light, and yet, chose the Dark Side lol.

Wanna know how absurd that sounds? Replace the word “undead” with “women”. That’s how absurd that is, and it’s contrary to the ethos of character creation in WoW since day one.

I’d just love to see an undead paladin use Ashbringer.

/wields ashbringer
/swings
/turns self to ash

We have Mechagnome Death Knights. The game has lost its sense of direction a long time ago.

If there is something we learned these last xpacs is:

  • Anything is lore appropriate in WoW if the “big bucks” want it
  • Nothing will be done even if lore demands it, if “big bucks” says no

So Orc Paladins will be a thing if people enough are paying the bill. They will remove Light Forget Draenei Paladins if the “shareholders” think it is offensive to someone who might not even play the game, but makes press.

Yeah, I guess it is pretty absurd if you take the subject of the sentence and replace it with something completely different and unrelated. I’ve been bested by your impeccable rhetoric

This sound absurd. So the argument is replacing a word with another that has nothing to do with, and making it absurd to prove the first is absurd ?
Not only it is a form of perverted cross between reductio ad absurdum and strawman, which are fallacies, but it also is non-sense.

It is like saying “goose flying is absurd. To see how absurd it is, replace goose with chicken”.

this basically never happens in the lore.

When Calia died it took anduin, alonsus, and a naaru just to bring her back as an undead.

resurrection and other res abilities are gameplay mechanics more than they are lore.

frankly I’m not sure what he did at the battle of lordaeron, as I said, resurrection is insanely rare, I’m inclined to believe it was some mass healing spell and not reviving fallen troops.

that said, Anduin isn’t undead so it doesn’t matter what he did in this context, it matters what we’ve seen undead do.

There’s literally nothing conflicting in the lore about a Mechagnome Death Knight.

There is however conflicting lore about Forsaken Paladins and Void Elf Paladins. Blizzard would have to create some pretty unique lore (or just make unholy/void versions of the same spells for those two races) to allow those class/race combos.

Plus, we all know how Blizzard feels about having to do that kind of work these days.

When they made the Blood Knights a thing, it was a big freakin’ deal, their origins playing a role right up until the penultimate boss of the whole expansion. Compare that to what Tauren paladins got. A few unvoiced lines of dialog.

That’s more their speed these days. They don’t have it in them to move the mountains it would take for either combination to even begin to make the more remote amount of sense.

The thing about Forsaken and the Light is if any Forsaken casts a holy spell, they feel pain from it. This is why in true lorewise sense, the Forsaken doesn’t utilize holy spells but have learned to mend with shadow instead. Holy/Disc is only an option to us for gameplay purposes. Blizzard has kind of excused undead light priests in the past by saying that even though it’s painful, they push through it with their unrelenting will yadayadayada…

Paladins on the other hand, uses the light as a very concentrated weapon. They are able to use it in a way that completely shatters and burns undead. The damage from using such high level light spells would be absolutely devastating. They would basically commit suicide.

Undead paladins are one of the least lorefriendly class comboes, Zeliek is an exception because the Lich King is holding his mind/body hostage.
