★ PSA: Void Elf Paladins are justified in the Lore ★

Lord Bhoppi’s post offers indepth explanation, research, and nuance. Something that previous Void Elf Paladin threads have lacked.

While previous Velf Pally threads have been subjective, this post comes from facts sourced from ingame mechanics, lore, and dev interviews.

It didn’t though. The base fact that void and light counters each other just ruins their whole thing. And ain’t no way they’re making a custom skin just for this one demand. So in the end it’s just another thread asking for an impossible class/race combo.

When/If they let void elf be paladin, it’s because every race can be every class. Do you see that happening anytime soon?

Priest is wildly different. Do you think it would make sense for a class to have only one available spec?

At this point, Undead has more odds of having paladin be available via lightforged.

Void Elves are in danger here.

The High Elf crowd is not happy with things that were given, they want now to also ruin the Void Elves identity adding light to it. And if you complain, some of the Quel’dorei supporters would tell you that it’s alright because Void Elves were a mistake.

Mistake was giving them pink skin in the first place.

This is not Void Elves. You don’t see Void Elves asking for this. These are High Elf fans.

“Hence” nothing. That is entirely in your head. There was never any reason given in lore for the high elf options. It is purely due to player feedback and requesting.

Next you’ll be saying something just as silly like, “And if they choose paladin their Entropic Embrace becomes Light’s Embrace.”

For goodness sake. They are VOID elves. That’s what they always will be. You’re still asking for a whole separate race without actually asking for it.

It’s factually correct though is it not? The Void Elves were created as a “compromise” to attempt to give quel’dorei fans something and it failed massively. Therefore it is a failure and a mistake.

Where is the evidence of the Void Elves being a compromise?

Our Lead Narrative Designer has already confirmed Void Elf ranks are growing from outside Elves seeking power. Ren’dorei is a political name, same as Sin’dorei. They’re all Thalassians.

Whether you personally like or dislike the current story direction is a different topic, however as it stands, canon is canon.

Steve Danuser interview with Polygon regarding Void Elf Population

“There’s just one question: If they come from a small group of Silvermoon Exiles, how are they an Allied Race? Where do the numbers come from?”

“They start out as a small group,” Danuser continues. “But it’s natural as other elves have found out about them — elves who are interested in new sources of magic, power, or opportunities — would see if they could undergo a similar process.”

How rushed in they were, had little to no lore attached to them. It’s clear they weren’t planned and were more intended to be kinda like high elves while still maintaining some variety from them.

This is not evidence. Evidence is Blizzard saying they gave Void Elves as a compromise.

This is just speculation that one person said and many others started repeating. Like many things in GD.

I agree with everything. Gimme void elf pallies!

No one is trying to take away from the Ren’dorei, you are a diverse people made up of Blood Elves & High Elves.

I say, cater to both. The more customization & diversity for our people the better.

It is very similar to how the Bronzebeard & Wildhammer clans are all represented under Dwarves.

That “one person” is Steve Danuser, our Lead Narrative Designer for World of Warcraft. He literally writes our lore.

I see the writing on the wall, you can deny it. But look at how the void elves were changed for the HE community. It’s clear they were meant as that. The race was a mistake. Bring in the VE pallies.

When perceptions are evidence…

Show me Steve Danuser saying they were a compromise.

Void Elves are a diverse people made up of Blood Elves and High Elves that want to study the Void. That’s why they are called Void Elves.

Paladins don’t want to study the Void.

Uh… This quote only proves my point, not yours.

Danuser was asked why Silvermoon exiles, being a small group, became an Allied Race.

Danuser said their numbers grew because other Elves were interested in new magic.

New magic: Void magic. Nowhere was talked about the light or any potential light theme in a race called Void Elves.

Yes my Child, the Void Elves seek to gain new powers to augment their abilities.

Why would a Void Elf restrict themselves to using only the Void? The whole point of the Ren’dorei is to seek out other forms of power to draw strength from multiple schools.

This is why you have Void Elf Mages, Warriors, Discipline Priests, etc.

If anything, a Void Elf Paladin fits perfectly within the thematics of the Ren’dorei.

Who is to say a Void Elf Discipline Priests wouldn’t want to undergo martial training? Who is to say a High Elf Paladin wouldn’t seek to augment their abilities for pure power?

Wielding the Light while balancing Void Magic to augment their power is the definition of pushing limits, the very core of Void Elf philosophy.

Void Elves are not restricted to Void magic, instead they use it to augment their abilities.

Surrender to fate, flow with the stream and embrace destiny. This is a new age of Elf, a revolution.

Gonna leave this here like I do in almost any thread about race/class combos and leave it at that.

You are taking Danuser’s interview out of context, it’s all I am saying.

Danuser is explaining why the Void Elves numbers grew. Danuser replied that it was because many other Elves were interested in them and went to undergo a similar process.

What this interview says is that other High/Blood Elves went to study the Void, so that is why there are many Void Elves

They start out as a small group,” Danuser continues. “But it’s natural as other elves have found out about them (The Void Elves) — elves who are interested in new sources of magic, power, or opportunities — would see if they could undergo a similar process. (Void Elf transformation)

He says nothing else, neither implies anything else aside from saying the Void Elves are many now because many Elves went to become Void Elves. It is speculation.

As to why they are Warriors, mages, and Priests. This is simple. All Elves like magic and are attuned to it. All Elves, even the Warriors, know magic. A Void Elf Warrior can still use the Void and be a sword fighter, a Void Elf mage can still use the Void and Arcane.

Void Elf Priests are there due to the Shadow Priests, not for Holy. Just like Lightforged Draenei Shadow Priests are there for Holy. Game mechanics.

This has nothing to do with Paladins, as Paladins, worshippers of the light would not go to study the Void, they would not be “Interested in the Void Elves as to join them.”

Danuser only said why their numbers grew, not that they could use the light.
