I wouldn’t mind them re-using the “skeletons” or the complete skins/models/polygons from WoW in the editor. Would be cool to have onyxia/nefarian model for example.
Players won’t mind re-used models.
Is it practical though?

You can already do this through modding. You can get a WoW model viewer, export the models/animations you want, and import them into WC3.
We haven’t had any recent news, but they are planning on modding tool updates so they should be able to be imported into WC3 as well. Of course, they will not look 100% right alongside Reforged models and would need modification, but it’s a start and I figure many people will use them.
People have been importing WoW models into WC3 for quite some time now.
It would certainly make things a lot easier for the developers, especially if they re-rigged the skeletons and bones to the Reforged models. And I’m sure sharp eyes, in the inevitable crossover of WoW players, would notice right away the animations and all that.
But I think I’d prefer it all being from the ground up, myself.
I’m sure you wouldn’t mind anime models ether…
They are ready to use in Warcraft III for years, at this point it is kinds just one click and probably Reforged custom maps will use tons of them because of the recent WoW models’ quality
it is very much possible.
this is a tech demo I made like 6-8 years ago
but the (sd) war3 graphics engine really did not like if you put to many WoW models in there (see the terrible framerate for example)
however
with reforged (I atleast speculate) that the new HD graphics engine will support .m2 aka WoW models natively or atleast the conversion will be more easy, (blizz very indirectly hinted at this at blizzcon).
I don’t even have enough to to watch the news to completely understand what Illuminati is planning next, and you want me to have enough time to figure out how to export and tune animations from wow model viewer to warcraft 3?
It’s not practical and it would take a lot of extra memory in the map.
im more interested in getting hots models for reforged
Then you arent being practical.
