The campaign is noticeably easier on Hard, which feels more like Normal.
This becomes the most apparent by Mission 5: March of the Scourge, where the attacks do not include a lich as they used to and it is REALLY easy to hold with a LOT of towers and units remaining whereas before in the end you would usually get overwhelmed (but still win the mission because you have buildings standing).
I don’t know if this was a conscious choice or not, but this was the drop that spilled the bucket for me and made me request a refund, because it removes any challenge and makes things really boring.
I hoped for a lot of things, like a harder difficulty to make replaying the campaign more worthwhile, but it seems we can’t even have the original experience preserved!
This is one of the things that HAS to be fixed for me to consider re-buying the game.
Any game feels easier when you have put a ton of time into it. As an example, I have played kingdom hearts 3 twice on two different difficulties, once in proud mode (at the time of release it was the hardest difficulty) but it was easy because of my experience with kingdom hearts 2 final mix (the original final mix from Japan so yes i played it in Japanese on ps2), then my second playthrough happened when critical mode released, it was still easy to me apart from 3 seperate battles at the end of the game (2 story related battles and one post game battle)
He already gave multiple concrete examples and constructiv criticism as to why its easier so GTFO with that talk about it’s just in his head.
It’s easier because it’s easier. Like OP said, enemy heroes were much stronger and more prominent. Enemy bases as well, take Stratholm for example, old vs new. In the old one the enemy base was an impregnable fortress, in Reforged its weak and easily destroyed, which takes away a massive scale of difficulty from the mission.
Then again its important to remember that WC3 was an older game, and older games were just generally more difficult and required skill and dedication to complete. Modern games are much more casual and “player friendly” to maximize profit and pander to consumer psychology.
I stomped the old campaign like you would a stick. (In og warcraft 3 that is)
Seriously I’m by all means a decent RTS player but that crap is easy once you’ve put enough time under your belt especially a campaign mode with no new updates or changes to it, you know exactly what to do regardless of difficulty and how to achieve it.
If you looked at the classic wow forums you would know that people are complaining about how easy the game is and comes with the patch being the last patch of vanilla wow and 16 years of game experience and shared knowledge any 8 year old can google.
You’re missing the point, this isnt a dick measuring contest, its not about you or me. Regardless if you curbstomped the original campaign or not is irrelevant. It is the fact that original WAS objectively more difficult than Reforged no matter how you look at it.
Yes the game was more difficult also because you were younger and less sophisticated understanding with the game than you are today, but if we were to replay the Original March of the Scourge mission and then immediately play the same mission on Reforged, you would without a doubt say that yes, it was easier than original because there was no Death and Decay to wipe out half of your army every wave.
Reforged campaigns do seem easier than classic WC3 to me too. For example, I played the March of the Scourge in both Reforged and in my original WC3 (still installed and functional) on hard difficulty this week, and it was totally different, an appropriate struggle for survival in classic and nearly a walk in the park in Reforged.
I noticed the enemies in campaigns being weaker in Reforged another way too. In RoC orc campaign you have allied forces in missions 3 and 8. Playing Reforged on normal difficulty, in mission 3, when I had massed a maxed out army and went for the human bases, I found out that Grom’s team had already nearly destroyed one of them. I have NEVER seen that happen in classic WC3! And in the final 8th mission, in Reforged, I saw Jaina’s attack parties actually clearing the map! Slowly, bit by bit, but they were doing it all right. Again, never saw that in classic WC3; there Jaina’s forces were always butchered at the gates of any Fel orc base. This too shows AI enemies in campaigns being easier to beat in Reforged than in classic.
The final ROC mission was incredibly easy. I’ve played this campaign hundreds of times and I could tell this mission was far more easier than usual. A harder difficulty would have made the campaigns more interesting on top of the graphics change
The liches didn’t show up until the end and barely have any time to do anything. They’re just a threat. Yes they should have shown up at the same time in Reforged, but they don’t make the level any harder. They barely do anything.
I always use to crack the southern Undead base in The Culling, but it was a challenge, requiring several pushes to break Undead defense and sieging with mortars with Flare.
The northeastern base in the new version can be broken with an attack-move. Not only that, but the old altar Mal’Ganis spawned at was inaccessible. You could pop the towers around it but you couldn’t actually reach the mesa it was on. Now, you can surround his exit point with towers and hold the city indefinitely. The towers will kill him before he teleports away, and enough of them will kill him before his minions spawn.
They used to show up at about 10 minutes left, if I remember correctly, as long as you weren’t pushing into the Undead base, which was much harder in Classic than Reforged.
