I really do not want to do anything with Reforged. And wanting to mess around with the Map Editor I hopped on the one available on the client, but it is the Reforged editor. Is there no access to the classic editor anymore? Or has Blizzard really screwed with everything?

Yes, as far as I know Blizzard really screwed up everything. Note that anything you do in editor is literally owned by Bliz, including names, story, code, EVERYTHING.
You have no right to recreate anything you have made in editor.
It literally always was. Dota won the case based on the name of the game alone, and almost nothing else. Dota versus defense of the ancients.
There’s a freaking classic button in the World Editor options. Go to edit, then preferences, then where it says HD toggle to SD.
C’mon guys, you really think they would just delete the classic editor? The people making this game wanted it to be a success, it’s the psychic vampires on the forum who ruined it.
Edit: and greedy corporate overlords, or whatever

Anyway, this is almost ridiculous…
You can create custom maps with new textures and skins but is also compatible with classic game, what exactly do you want?, you have map editor as far you have classic game or reforged, stop complaining about EVERYTHING.
And yeah, Blizzard has the copyright of all your work about the map itself.
Since Reforged came out, all of the people wants to play WC3 again, but of course, not reforged, review bombing did a good work at it… Go cry other place bro, like at your mama.

Old post but there is a very good reason to prefer classic editor over reforged : the 15+ years of custom models library 
It’s easier to make new ones on low definition, and to see how they blend with original models it is better to open editor in classic mode.

Ironically to edit the reforged f#$# models. And since they brought very few new models of those that have to do with history.
