What's With All The Disconnects And Game Crashes?

Custom Games, PvP, solo online in Warcraft 3

This never happened once when WC3 classic was released, the servers were solid

I feel that a World Server was implemented (WoW) to host all the players rather than zones from the 90s

But I’m equally curious if Acivision had a board meeting and said: “we can save money by not hiring a beta-bug-discovery team, and just edit and update the game with fixes overtime”

This isn’t a QQ post about CEOs where this never happened when Mike Morhaime was president

Rob Pardo is a great guy, and Diablo Immortal looks like a lot of fun, but ideas versus execution when it comes to product presentation………

Blizzard makes these AAA worthy games and Blizzcon comes around once a year if we’re lucky, the hype train builds up, and “hey world, here’s what we’ve been working on…the Diablo 3 demon hunter”

Your fans want something more

Patrick Star RE: “that was a rip off”

The last few Blizzcons have had multiple titles with new content for something for everyone to look forward to, which is great, but I can’t help but feel that with improvements to server stability and production versus execution are the Squaresoft days of turn based Final Fantasy classics to Square-Enix and launching FFX with a beach playing, ball throwing - it was a FF8 gunblade concept that they made work - but it was a Mario Sunshine rolling a watermelon versus Mario 64 all over again

Square-Enix has stepped up with they’re A game and have released titles such as Tomb Raider and Nier Automata

But Blizzard…….your name speaks for itself

Overwatch 2, Diablo 4 graphics with possible Amazon and Rogue classes nerdgasm

I’m not saying NUCLEAR LAUNCH DETECTED to your server room and rebuild, but come on

Warcraft III: REFORGED

Blizzard RE: “we’ve remade the servers from classic with worse hardware than with what WC3 Classic server had back in the day”

The WC3: Reforged terrain texture is terrible compared to the unit models, but maybe this is Blizzard’s Bokeh effect

Unreal Engine 4 videos and the Warcraft 3 graphics get me pumped for what’s possible with Warcraft 4, but then I look at StarCraft 1 remastered, and how StarCraft 2 came out afterwards and had a select all unit F2 option, then SC1 remastered comes out without this option, and what’s worse is that it still has a 40 second who’s lagging window before you can click them disconnected button

Rob Pardo is a great guy and CEO, and becomes Blizzard Entertainment: Reforged, but I feel Bobby Kotick, (Activision’s CEO), and looking over his (Rob’s) shoulder at his CEO desk and saying in his ear: “that new No. 2 pencil costs to much money, and the breath you just took, to much for the budget of your new game”

World Of Warcraft: Cataclysm peaked at 12 million subscribers or $120 million/month before Blizzard joined activision so it’s probably not a monetary thing

Reforged, remasters, it’s all a Halo-increased pixels slightly for side-by-side YouTube videos for fan boys, but I’m curious what’s going on here with Blizzard Entertainment

It doesn’t need another Twitch streamed apology about withholding Hearthstone earning and how we messed up the Warcraft 3: Reforged servers

It’s just that if one buys a game from they’re favorite company, where’s the heart and dedication?

TL;DR: this isn’t on your shoulders Rob Pardo, Diablo 3 etc. never got supported with future patches like weather, holiday events, seasons etc. and WC3: Reforged does this with item reskins in patch updates

But still, modern server hardware vs. WC3 classic hardware never crashing the game and those terrain textures…

I feel your the blacksmith dwarf in Final Fantasy 2 SNES USA / Final Fantasy IV whom must perfect his work, by making us wait those extra days whilst he forges the Excalibur

Edit: I just want to add that I game on a Dell 38" ultra-wide monitor that’s capable of 3840 x 1600

Modern and recent titles such as Doom Eternal, although don’t fully take advantage of the screen capabilities, and even though it’s by no means a 1ms response time refresh rate, it’s just cumbersome when playing Warcraft 3 forged at full screen, that any open application in Windows 10 shifts to the right of the screen every time when hitting the windows key on the keyboard

The game doesn’t have a ladder, clans, chat rooms, whisper abilities, leader boards with rankings etc. that Warcraft 3 had

I feel that looking at DOTA 2 cosmetic unlocks as an example, Warcraft 3: Reforged could greatly benefit from cosmetic unlocks, where you get cosmetic looks for units in game, decoration for your HUB screen etc. because you were the greatest Ent in Tree Tag or demonic wings because you got the greatest loot in Angel Arena, and now can get a santa hat wearable because of X number of winter editions played

Are we trying to say Final Fantasy X wasn’t a critical and commercial success?

Great game, beat it on PS2 when it came out and recently platinumed it on PS3. I would buy the remaster on PS4 if it had separate trophies.

I agree, have not played the HD yet but really need to. Maybe after FF7 remake.

HD version was the first time I actually went and got all the Celestial Weapons upgraded.
Yes, even did the horrible chocobo racing segments.
Though being on PC gave me the ability to mod FFX-2 so I can make proper use out of the monster capturing.

Warcraft III is not crashing for me any more regularly that it always has.

Try playing Castle Fight, lol. 5 times for me today alone it crashes for no reason (not a desync, just straight-up game disconnect)

Yo that might be the custom map’s fault. There could be some triggers or overload of units that could open it for desync.

It’s not a desync, though. This is also one of the most stable versions of Castle Fight. It’s happened to me, and I have seen it happen to others. It’s just a straight up user has left the game. No desync message.

In that case, just high lag due to ISP flooded by people due to curfew or their own ISP providers throttling. If the lag spike reaches high enough, it becomes a drop and due to no drop shield available yet, it becomes an insta-drop.

I don’t buy that. This was going on well before COVID-19, at any rate, and never occurred in TFT.

Yes, this is literally what they did for wc3 reforged.

Disconnecting is not a crash. A crash is when Warcraft III closes and possibly an error window or crash report window pops up.

It’s commonly known that a lot of Custom Maps use methods and triggers which should be avoided as they are prone to Disconnects and Desyncs.

A desync is a disconnect, it’s treated the exact same way, well, sort of. If a player reaches a point in which the game can no longer sync them, rather than stall the entire game for everyone (you remember the old pop up window for this with a 45s timer that allowed you to drop/kick players desync’ing/disconnecting) that was the “desync protection” in effect - it wasn’t actually protection as much as it was a grace period to allow people the chance to reconnect/sync again - something that honestly, didn’t really happen most of the time (it got better with bot hosts tho).

WC3:R runs the exact same engine (with modifications) as WC3 did. This was always an inherent issue in WC3. To say that Desyncs and Disconnects never happened in WC3 is purporting a fat lie. They happened and quite often at that. Especially in the beginning of the WC3. They did manage to reduce it, but not a whole lot.

See, the issue is that it’s not necessarily something Blizzard can fix. It’s for the most part in the hands of your ISP, the connection you have (ie. the network you’re using… cobber wires are for the most part in a notoriously bad condition and even though they say they can handle upwards 200mbit connections - they really can’t for many people) and the routing (ie. the route your packets travel and the hubs they go through) and your own network (ie. your wifi cutting out, your router or modem cutting out etc). An error in any of these will lead to a loss of packets - have a large enough packet loss and you either desync or outright disconnect. Impart a lot of it is caused by Global Matchmaking - especially if you as an EU/NA citizen get thrown on a Chinese/KR server and vice versa. Imagine having to route through a good amount of 3rd world countries to get to the server on the other side of the world. Not only does it take a fair few seconds - you’re also going through hubs and routes that are less well-maintained than what you would if you only connected to your own region.
Blizzard can’t fix that and in order to ensure disconnection protection they would have to invade the privacy of the majority in order to help a minority. Sorry, that’s not how this world works. I don’t DC and I don’t have desyncs since they fixed the maps that caused desyncs (fyi - none of those maps were made by Blizzard, but by Players…)

What Blizzard could do to minimize this and I hope they do, is to allow us to choose which regions we want to play on. That would certainly help, but it would never stop desyncs and disconnects entirely.

And award for most pedantic comment of the year goes to…you.

The custom game crashes to the match results screen. It’s a crash.

Uhm, no.
He is, in fact, correct. Disconnecting is not a crash. Desync is not a crash.
A crash occur when the software becomes unresponsive or it is forced to quit.

Disconnecting and Desync does neither.
Fact is that desync and disconnection looks and feels the exact same in the game.
Player A leaves can both be a desync and a disconnect (or them straight up leaving) and both of them takes you to the Score Screen.
The only time you actually notice a difference is “You have disconnected from Battle.net” window pop up with a confirmation button.

Sorry, this is just not true. Every time I have been desynced, I can see the desync messages show up in the in-game chat a split second before I am punted to the match results screen. These crashes or “Disconnects” as you call them do not share this feature.
