What You Think characters should look like

So I’m creating this space to discuss what you guys would like the characters to look like, specifically those ones that have already been previewed and you do not think meet the expectations.
if you think they are perfect please don’t feel the need to post here, there’s threads to discuss how awesome you think new models are.

Second to that I have to say, I’ve been playing wow since vanilla, I know all its story, Warcraft 3 I’ve been playing since I have memory.
this tread is not to discuss what is better or what is awesome, because wow has good designs, but not because of that, warcraft should copy their design, warcraft 3 character look wasn’t random, their particular look at the time, helped developing the story.

If you think i hate wow look, take a look at my bedrooms wall.

As you can see my preferred looks go towards WoW…that sylvanas I painted 5 years ago, even before heroes of the storm came out depicting her as farstrider.

but that doesn’t mean I think they should use the same style in warcraft III ,both games should remain distinctive from each other.

with that in mind I invite you guys to post your ideas on what characters should look like!..
I have some quick concepts on what i think they should look like, and some notes trying to break out who were they by the time the story takes place, so roughly 18 years ago from the actual events in WoW.

-Jaina xhttps://pre00.deviantart.net/e98e/th/pre/i/2018/316/6/3/jainaconceptart_by_daniellewhite-dcrv0up.png

Jaina is just a sorcerers apprentice, not the powerful wizard we know nowadays,by that time she was naive, curious, she hated resorting to violence, and war is not something she looked for,it was something she got into, She must look fragile enough for men wanting to run in her aid,her first appearance in the game is a reference to a damsel in distress… making her wear plate armor, would look most like a random pick of clothing, and contradictory to her position towards violence.
(I can totally picture her in her idle animation summoning a book to read xD)

shes good to go,but how could they forget about her sexy lips!,green lips people! this is one of her features that always stood out the most,at least for me.
Her hair also has to be white, random change, probably a mistake.

-Kael

theres no information about him yet, except his portray int he official page…
so I’m only gonna talk about what i would like to see… I would like to see his desperation, the pressure he has with his dying people, and his madness over his magic abstinence portrayed in his character and face…I don’t want to see the proud king of the blood elves with cocky attitude,I want to see the desperate leader trying to look for salvation for his people. someone like that I don’t think would care too much about his appearance or his hair, something warcraft 3 handled well, I don’t think his uneven hair during war3 was random.

not much to say about them, small details that could go unnoticed, still would be nice if they added the stitched mouth.

-Sylvanas undead

Sylvanas,I don’t know why they even bothered to create a concept art of hers, she has no major changed from her costume in wrath of the Lich King, this is where we should see a middle ground, from Sylvanas mindless undead, to Sylvanas banshee queen leader of the forsaken.
as a mindless undead I dont think she had much choice on her clothing.
Sylvanas is the leader of the farstriders, she fights arthas on his way to the sunwell, when she finally dies, she didn’t die as a simple mistake, she got cornered by the scourge and knew of her death before hand, she accepts it and claims she deserves a quick death.
Her heart is still Elven,as claimed by the Nathrezim, even if she had some conscious she would have remained with her elvish armor, helps to visualize where her heart stands by that time,I can picture her by the time of her self coronation, adorning her armor with the skeletons and other adornments.

I think that that link’s Jaina is pretty solid. I wouldn’t be upset if that was in the game, and I agree with the logic that a mage like her shouldn’t be in plate armor. It kinda goes against the motif of mages sapping their own energy to cast magics. This was a big deal especially in the novels, as casting spells was quite literally a draining experience.

I don’t think the reason for her to be without plate is because she’s supposed to appear like a damsel, I think the guards alarm at seeing her was from two massive ogres chasing her. Anyone would be alarmed at a lone unarmored person fighting two ogres.

I second this. While we only have the website photo, I think that Kael should stay with the more Wc3 style. Especially considering what they did to him in WoW lore, I’d rather keep to the older style for a character you play through a campaign as.

I honestly think the Dreadlord model was perfect. It kept to the original style, easily distinguishable coloration, and has the true nefarious feel to it that I always pictured Dreadlords having. Of all the models in Wc3R, the Dreadlord is far and away the one I’m most excited for.

As for the others, I haven’t seen enough to really comment. I’ll be waiting on more details about them before I say anything good or bad towards them.

thanks for your comments…and yeah dreadlords are good to go…i think it would be a nice detail…but even if they didnt,it looks really good!,
I really loved kael back them, they just butchered him in wow,its sad

Yes, that concept for Kael is a must have, we need to see the toll of his people genocide, the withrawall of the Sunwell’s energy, the pressure of leading the survivors against all odds on his face, while still being regal enough to show leadership, also I hope this is one of the characters they wanted to give more spotlight, he deserves it after what they did to him in WoW, an elaborate cutscene showing him learning to siphoon the fel energies of a critter in outland and reigniting the magic on his eyes, adding the green tint, would be excellent.

I would have liked the art style to be similar to Heroes of the Storm or to World of Warcraft but what we have is pretty nice as well (except the heroes could use some work). It would have been pretty cool to reuse some of the assets and characters found in Heroes of the Storm or World of Warcraft for custom maps but doing so would have made the art look very inconsistent since the art style looks very different.

Hopefully Warcraft III: Reforged has some extra art assets not found in the original that we could use for the map editor.

Kinda agree with what topic says, keep the old concepts that were used in original Warcraft III.

Those concept arts are so awesome, and what I was hoping to see in Reforged. Jaina has especially bothered me, as you can tell that Reforged and HotS allowed WoW to influence her design.

The real issue to me is that WoW is extremely retricting on how characters can be designed. All characters have to fit the WoW equipment restrictions of shoulder pads, cape, etc. A look like Jaina or Maive’s original looks simply weren’t possible in WoW because real capes (ones that cover the shoulders and aren’t just backwards bibs) weren’t possible, nor anything else really unique.

I like what we saw of Reforged, I just wish the shoulder pads were toned down, and if you’re gonna give a character a cape, don’t make it a WoW-style cape. A cape should be something like what Jon Snow wore, not Superman. But even superman had a more functional cape than what they gave Jaina or Arthas.

Totally this is what I hope to see, hots team made an amazing job making his character on heroes, only thing I would add to that one, are the things I already mentioned and a younger face, he looks too old.
Also his personality in heroes is his wow personality… In warcraft 3 he’s a very polite character, althou he’s prince he doesn’t treat anyone with condescension, instead everyone else seems to treat him like a child. I hope he doesn’t get his personality twisted into what later became his more iconic attitude.

Hahahaha hahahaha I’m still laughing at this hahaha XD, it’s totally truth, I love cloaks, and I must say wow capes look so lame. This is a chance to make them look better… While retaining their spirits.

Yeah! I just re-read that’s what I meant, i think maybe I didn’t explain well but what u said is exactly what I mean… What I meant to say is normally the picture of the damsel in distress is that of a girl being chased by a dragon or thieves or that sort of evil… In this case the ogres… As you said… The impression is totally different from a person unarmored to the tank of the raid… (exaggerating)
But now that u mention it, I’d like to go more over it into the logics of the design… Roughly 40lbs of armor, across shoulder pads, the knee armor and the chest armor, would not run, I mean would be a possibility, but this would be extremely exhausting, and Jaina was running for God knows how long before they found her… If u use armor it’s for a reason, u stand your ground and fight

Hi,

general, we are doing a model or look discussion of the units already seen on Youtube.

I have some concerns.

First of all, I have to mention, that I have heard that custom or imported models cause more lags than others on “Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne”. if that’s so, then fix that for “Warcraft 3: Reforged”.

Now to the models:

I am unsatisfied with two models: The footmen model and the knight model.

footman model:
-The footman model looks too strong, and not very good distinguishable from other units, as already mentioned on Youtube.
MY IDEA: Create two footman models: One for Stormwind with the Stormwind shield (because this shield is more unique) for normal Warcraft 3 games, whereas you could use the footman model with the Lordaeron shield for the campaign.
I also have another concern. We saw, that the footman model looks too strong. Maybe that is because the ghoul model looks too weak, so you could make the ghoul model look more dangerous.
Otherwise, you could maybe make the footman look like a footman is walking harder or cumbersome (because of his armor). Then the footman would look a bit more motionless, which would cause the effect, that this unit looks strong, but seems to be a bit weaker, because the footman looks motionless / sluggish / languid / cumbersome. I think you know what I mean.

Or you could just let it be because in the game, maybe it should not look realistic in terms of the relationship between strength and look/outward appearance of a unit.

knight model:
-The knight model looks a bit too boring for me, a knight could attack cooler. Maybe he can use his lance/spear/flag to stab or prick while attacking. You could also give the horse more armor, or make the horse be white or black, to make it look more distinguishable.
I also notice, that a knight looks weak in comparison to a grunt, which I do not like.
You could also make the horse jump by first attack from the front, and do one awesome trick I saw in the Warcraft movies: If a knight attacks a unit that stands behind him, he could instead of turning around and then attack (if the angle is fitting / appropriate) attack with the back hooves of the horse as a first attack and then turn around to attack the unit with his sword. That would look more powerful (If you don’t like that idea, you could also only make that happen if the first attack is a critical hit).
You could also make two side shields on every side of the horse (left and right on the horse) to make the horse look more armored.

I think the horse and knight should look more armoured, or the footman should look less armored, or you could just let it be, maybe that’s inevitable, that a footman looks too strong and a knight too weak.

The militia should have a hatched in place of a sword. A militia looks too strong.

In general, the footman looks too strong, and the knight too weak in comparison for that, what I really don’t like. A knight looks to be as strong as a grunt, and a footman looks to be much stronger than 3 or 4 ghouls. That’s a problem.
