Dungeons and Dragons?
Like what was the game based off? StarCraft?

It was gonna be a Warhammer game but the licensing rights fell through so they continued on with it but as their own jam.
Starcraft came after Warcraft 2.
KingOmelette is correct. StarCraft = 1998, WC1 = 1994
Dungeons & Dragons is based on LotR, I read that DnD originally used names like Gandalf and Gollum in the game but had to remove them. LotR/Hobbit = 1950/1930s, DnD = 1970s
Archmage seems a bit like Gandalf to me. Elves, Dwarves, Humans, are the main 3 races in LotR with Orcs being the villain. Theres also goblins, and dragons and trolls, etc etc… but hobbits are exclusive to Middle-earth.
In WC2 the orc race had some undead units, while the elves and dwarves were part of the Human alliance. Then Blizzard decided to split some of the Orcs from the “chaos” and made them cartoony and friendly, Thrall joined the humans after being abandoned by his Orc tribe. So, then Blizz created the Undead and Burning Legion as the new villains.
Its pretty easy to guess where their influence for SC1 came from.
Warhammer Fantasy Battle.
It’s a tabletop minifigure Strategy game made by Games Workshop. Goes as far back as the early 80’s, and was heavily influenced by LOTR and Elric of Melniboné.
On a side note, for Warcraft 2, Blizzard played around with idea to have Orcs invade modern day world, like Dragons vs Fighter jets. Imagine if they went that route…
