I feel it’s a good idea for WC3 to be updated with new A.I. Both from a custom game perspective but also in making the PvE experience more dynamic. A big part of WC3 was playing with friends in huge maps against multiple computer controlled opponents.
Note: this does not mean breaking the pathing or blocking mechanics. It just means the computer makes smarter choices in how they move and utilise the units they have.
Having played plenty of WC3 it’s fair to say the A.I is really bad by today’s standards. So if Blizzard was to take inspiration from another RTS, which one should it be?
It’s been a minute since I’ve played VS AI outside of the campaign. In melee maps, they just auto-know where you are and build like 2 - 3 of every unit still, right?
Yeah, still like that. And your friendly AI bots still steal your creeps and your loot. They also double expand on the same goldmine as you in team games. They still bug out in maps built like islands or blocked terrain, can’t buy zepps or boats. Any insane AI can be killed below 10 min using a burrow and 2 towers. They forget peons everywhere around the map and sometimes bug out patrolling endlessly with their whole army, or hesitate helping when your base is attacked, they just make as if they’re coming to help but turn back last second. Plus they just build a couple of each units and sit on 15k gold the entire game.
The Company of Heroes AI usually kicked everyone’s butt.
My friend’s and I used to prey for an enemy player to not drop as the AI would completely outplay us on a micro level.
