What happened? - A pleasant surprise

So took a break for like 1 month. Came back and decided to play the campaign. I start up chapter 1. SMOOTH AF. I got the latest Nvidia driver installed along with experimental features on. I suspect it might have something with that to do. But jesus my gpu usage goes happily up to 99% and gives me consistent 130+ frames at all times. Cutscenes are like 70 - 100 but still totally fine.

Anyways, I decided to go back to the menu as I realised that the menu used to be laggy af. Nope it was 100 fps + . In fact, the performance is so good that I’ve limited the fps to 100 and haven’t seen it go below that even once, at least not in the campaign and local area network games. Couldn’t find anything about this anywhere so decided to write it here and see if anyone else might see a difference/make it smooth for themselves.

Sorry if it is a bit incoherent, just thought of doing this at 4 am lol

Settings: Everything maxed out at 2560x1440 144hz.
Specs:
RTX 2070 - maxed out the fan cause it got like 85 C hot, now it is 69 C
Ryzen 5 3600 - PBO on.
Dual stick 3200mhz ram
Samsung evo 970 pro
Latest nvidia driver ( 456.38) with experimental features turned on

Edit: Don’t see why people on this forum have a problem with this post. It is simply a “story” of how my fps literally doubled. Went from 50 - 70 to a solid 130+. It is just about what I have done/ changed with my PC lately that could possible have made it so. Is your performance bad? Maybe try it out, no one is forcing you to. Don’t expect the exact same FPS if you have a worse GPU.

Again for those who clearly don’t understand. ALL performance ISSUES are gone after doing this. This post has nothing to do about whether the game is good enough or not. Nothing at all. It is strictly about performance gains for those who care to play on reforged setting.

Have you tried with a Nvidia Quadro?
Heard it’s even better.
For the menu, just pack a couple of tesla. This way you can easily start the game. Then you can go back to a S3 Virge and play…

Need RTX 2070 to run a 20 year old game on max settings. And it still runs at 99% and over 80C degrees hot   And still getting below 100 fps. Says this is improvement

Man stop! I can’t. My sides.

Did you read what I wrote? The gameplay is 130 fps +. at 100 fps it uses 60%. 20% cpu. I isn’t bad. As long as it is smooth, that’s what matters.

What is it with you people? If the game doesn’t use 100% of gpu it is crap optimised, if it does it is badly optimised. Make up your mind. If you can play the game smoothly with 130 + fps and 60+ fps cut scenes then it is all good. Nothing to complain about.

The game went from having a sub 30fps menu and 50 -70 fps in game performance to now rock steady above 130. How is that not an improvement? Stop sitting on a bandwaggon. Dont be sheep.

“Hi guys, I bought an overexpensive graphic card to run a menu.”
“Due to the fact I have updated my drivers Blizzard has improved the game.”
“You are a sheep.”

This.

So, don’t ask why they don’t even care to make the game work properly.
It’s just cause on the other side there is not even people that can understand it, but nevertheless they spend money on it… and on meaningless hardware too^^

I did not say that they have improved the game. I only said that it has gotten smooth to me and my specs along with driver versions + settings.

You are sheep for literally hating on a good thing. Whether it has something to do with blizzard improving the game or not, nevertheless the performance is improved. Doubling the performance for free is not a small thing. So why hate on it?

Sorry I really can’t reach the level of your logic…
I’m happy for your solution.
Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Here is the logic.
Blizzard releases a bad game - everyone is hating on it. Logical no?
Blizzard barely does anything good/patches the game - everyone is hating. Logical no?
Blizzard doesn’t do anything but suddenly performance has doubled, everywhere, for someone - 2 guys still hating on it. hmm logical?

2 Guys are stuck on the bandwaggon on hating the game. Logical?
2 Guys are stuck following the mass in “if you don’t hate on it you endorse it”. Logical?

have fun using the logic of SJW.

Selfish genius.

So, how do you exactly relate it to the problems we all have with the game?
Your update of the drivers didn’t affect anyone else here. We are still with the same problems as before.
Are you going to buy a RTX2070 for everyone? Do we even need it?

People here are just trying to help you look less stupid and you call them sheeps… mah…

Anyway, to get back in topic:

Your driver got updated.

It was probably an automatic update.

Greetings.

No one is hating on you or “sitting on a bandwaggon”. This is just a really meaningless post. This game is very unpolished and poorly optimized with removed features and false promises, people deserve to complain or “hate” if they want to. This post just made you look like it’s all about you tbh.

(sarcastic mode on)

Have you tried on an RTX 3090? You will gain 50fps immediately. What a great job Blizzard!

(sarcastic mode off)

Meanwhile SC2 runs great in old cards and laptops.

It relates to the problems we all have with the game by saying NOT EVERYONE has the same performance issues. As someone who has had the same performance issues as everyone else, it is good to know both for the devs but also other players that they have been solved at least for 1 person. Maybe someone can try to reproduce these results with the same GPU or a newer/ older one. It matters. The information matters to the person who might resolve these issues but also the devs “working” on the game.

Again, I did mention that I sat at a low fps. During beta and 2 months after release when I played reforged, the game was running piss poorly. Just like for everyone else. So having at least 1 person whom it works well for is good. If you have a 970 you obviously can’t expect to see the exact same fps, but perhaps that individual might have better than what was before. That again matters. If the devs won’t update the game it is even more important for the community to share these work-around that might help improve the game.

Do you realize that what you said is that the game has better fps because you updated the drivers?

On one thing you are right. Saying that it could be useful to the devs to know that people gets better fps by updating the drivers.
I’d actually also try to explain what a driver is because I strongly doubt that whoever made reforged knows it… or a graphic card… or a computer… for sure not a user interface…

PS
this game still works smoothly on a Pentium3. No real need for a 2070…

Yupp. That is literally the point of this point. Also put on experimental features on.

Its 2020 game for cry out loud, its meant to be used on 2015+ hardware, not hardware from 2003.

Im running this game with 80fps 4k and its pretty solid. Its recommend to have it on ssd for slower doodads loading times in game.

Its not a new 2020 game, that’s the problem.
First off, it was released in 2020, it wasn’t made in 2020, the majority of the work was done in 2017 to 2019. Blizzard was not finishing off visuals 9 months before release.

Which already means 2013-14 all the way to 2017 systems should not SHlT when running this game. but they do, no one is really saying hardware from 2005-2010 should be running this game on Reforged HD graphics with 0 issues. the problem is it has too many issues on just hardware that is 5 years old, 5 year old hardware is not ancient tech.

Also i got a lot of complaints for people using 1080TI saying the FPS sh!ts on itself as soon as the game gets any numbers going on the screen.

Its not about optimization, the models are over excessive overtly polygon heavy hyper detailed bloatware that is put in an RTS game where you aren’t exactly controlling like… that one guy in an RPG with super cool armor.

Imagine that one guy in an RPG with super cool armor and hyer detail except make the number of that one guy to about 600 and have it render on the entire screen. OBVIOUSLY the FPS will sh!t on itself. the models made for this game are not suitable for it. and also have functional issues, directly harmed the older custom communities in their intend to transition their maps to HD for more appeal. and size issues for maps is as common if not catapulted with Reforged.

A map with 500 to 3000 polygon models with stylish art that makes it not look as dated was the key for this game. that’s not some off world science its literally how this game was successful in the first place.

If all you want to do is marvel at Reforged models with 11 to 25 to 100 thousand polygons (for buildings it gets that high) Warcraft 3 is a bad way to do it.

Plus if you’re running this game at 60FPS for war3 is nothing, its actually bad, and it constantly falls bellow 60 unless its using top end graphics cards.

You need to run the game well above 200 FPS so when the numbers of material that’s rendered on the screen goes up then it would be reduced to 70-60 and that would be then reasonable. if anyones running this game at 60, when push comes to shove the game will run at 10 FPS.

Oh god, what is wrong with you lad. When you decide to hate something you will find all the reasons in the world. Its you not the game itself.

A very detailed explanation of the conceptual problems.

The reason developers get along with the **** they deliver.

OP didn’t you know forums are for complaining get out of here with your praise around here we only throw shade at blizzard smh. Next time you decide to praise blizzard for fixing the games issues remember what the purpose of a internet forum for a game is to cry and lobbyfor balance changes sheesh this guy.

This is still making me laugh.

The gameplay is 130 fps +. at 100 fps it uses 60%. 20% cpu.

Of course, because few games load up the CPU. It’s mostly the GPU, that gets utilized the most, which is why GPUs typically bottleneck the fastest. We were talking about GPU man. This ain’t a sound argument.

If the game doesn’t use 100% of gpu it is crap optimised, if it does it is badly optimised.

Point is, that your GPU works at full capacity and even heats up to the point of needing turn up the fans? Either the GPU is engineered poorly, or the game is. A 20 year old game should be like a breeze for the gpu. I’d expect below <40 C temperatures. And you say it turned to 80+

The gameplay is 130 fps +.

You mentioned it’s much less during cutscenes.

Stop sitting on a bandwaggon. Dont be sheep.

I am not the one defending a 20 year old game, that needs high-end PC to get 100+ FPS (even then, not always). You are the sheep, matey.

But all in all, thanks for this thread. This is comedy at it’s finest.
