My memories off on this, but I’m pretty sure one of the reasons why they stopped the whole revamping cut scenes was that “a lot” of fans didn’t want that. (To “preserve the true spirit’ of the game”) I mean, I know there might be some that didn’t want it. But were there SO MANY of them that didn’t want anything new in the cutscenes or changes in the story to match wow, that it overshadowed people that wanted the changes?
If so, where’s the proof? At the reveal in Blizzcon, thousands of people were cheering about this. (The complete opposite of Diablo Immortal) I mean, it might’ve been a lie, but I’m kinda curious if there really were that many people that didn’t want anything dynamic camera angles or other stuff like that.

If there were many people who did not want major changes to the Lore.
Because with current writers they were able to understand that Jaina’s father was a saint and that praying attacked him without reason.
but from the cinematics. I don’t recall any complaints.
There were supposed to be new “good looking” cutscenes that would add more lore focus on Jaina and Sylvanas and when people were against new lore they were basically against this too …
Still doesnt explain why only new cutscene is that ugly duel in FT …
Well, thousands of people cheering at BlizzCon is a relatively mute number of people when there’s millions of fans world wide.
As far as I know, the team discussed the direction the game took somewhere after BlizzCon '18 and decided that it would be best to preserve WC3 as much as possible.
According to Blizzard’s own statement this was due to conflicting reports from WC3 players and the Dev teams own “feelings” (feelings being an inadequate word for it). Some probably felt they went too far, some probably felt they didn’t go far enough - ultimately they opted for a path similar to StarCraft, update the graphics, but overall keep the game as is.
Obviously, that backfired - they should have been a lot more transparent with the changes than they were. Something akin to Diablo 4 transparent which is a welcome sight from Blizzard - also a first I believe. Don’t think I’ve seen them share this much (not that I like where Diablo 4 is heading…)
Will we ever know the objective truth? Probably not. That’s not necessarily a bad thing though, there’s really no reason to be stuck in the past - you can’t change what happened, you can learn from it and move forward. I know that’s a tad ironic seeing how most people & blizzard seem to be stuck in the past and not wanting to move on/improve the situation as best as possible, but eh… Humans be humans - we’re not exactly known for learning from past experiences - be that Blizzard or Players.
The weirder part to me is that, okay. They’re not going to do major story changes.
But they also didn’t even do the hand animated stuff with the existing audio.
This game did not get the HYPE going the way Blizzard wanted, and so they are scrambling to do as little work as possible.
They canned new story with the reason that it was what players wanted.
This is easier for them.
In this case, alledged player feedback was more important than what the studio wanted.
They canned reforged cutscenes with the reason that they want to preserve the original experience, even though the community feedback has been overwhelming in favor of them.
This is easier for them.
In this case, what the studio wanted was clearly more important than player feedback.
The only common thread is that blizzard does what is easiest with this game.
Someone else, I don’t remeber who, said it best; This was a game Blizzard wanted to make, and then it became a game they had to make.

Well to be fair I guess it is true you could just flip the switch classic and reforge so you can see either story.
However, I’m not really sure why they backed out of new cuts scenes. I dont think many would mind either way. The biggest issue that blizzard cut more content then created… Like heck I don’t even want to play custom games now cause of the new TOS.
The new ToS also applied to WC3 though, it was changed way before WC3:R, it was changed for SC2… It even applies to OverWatch.
The last change to the ToS and EULA was made in 2018. You can view them on the website in which they are always available to read and apply to all their games.
I know it is cheeky, but they’re actually not required to notify you of changes to the ToS or EULA, you gave up that right when you signed them the first time (standard practice), it really is underhanded, but eh, Facebook does the same. The minute you signed their ToS they owned all the data you shared on their platform.
You just realized it, because you’re required to sign the latest one when you buy a game/reinstall a game.
You can safely play Custom Games. They may own what you created with their tools, but they don’t own the idea nor the genre in that respect any map maker can always sell the idea/genre - if this was not the case games like OverWatch and HotS would never have been possible (games like HoN and Smite were the first MOBAs made) and TeamFortress was years ahead of OverWatch. The court case made that abundantly clear. They own the assets you produced (with their tools), they own the assets they made which you use, so you can’t reuse those not even similar looking ones (but made with other tools), it’s standard copyright.
I despise copyright with a passion, but… it is what it is. Far too many things are copyrighted in to oblivion that could make real progress for us, but is kept behind bars to prevent new things from taking root (case example - hydrogen cars have been copyrighted by major oil companies - guess why)
Wise words. Though it’s not just that Blizzard is learning from past experience, it’s mostly Activision that never seems to learn, nor care for it.
Yes, Wc3 Reforged might rated better if it has new updated campaign, and new cutscenes.
But too bad purists just have to ruin everything.

Everyone wanted updated visuals and cinematics. It was changes to lore, story, and map layout people didn’t want. We wanted the same maps, and the same story with a graphical overhaul, and updated cutscenes to reflect that.
