I’m getting pretty tired of playing 2v2, 3v3, and 4v4 on the same maps. It’s been a long time since they were updated. It’s time for some new maps, otherwise it’s getting really boring.
Yes, especially for 4v4.
For SC2 they just made some brand-new maps, and that game is older than Reforged.
So it is definitely possible, just the Reforged devs needs some boost.
Agreed, maybe change it up, have a contest since we have a massive pool of melee map makers.
HiveWorkshop has some good maps that are balance tested.
As for using SC2 as an example, it would be since they recently patched it, is why the pool changed, which is exactly what would happen when wc3 gets a patch update.
I know some users are unaware of this since they haven’t really understood how it works.
With BlizzCon on the rise and Warcraft III returning at 2026 BlizzCon, we can only hope they send a patch update before it releases, but it’s getting pretty close.

No we dont need new maps, unless Bnet players suddenly make a massive leap in intelligence, it’ll take them decades just to learn the current map pool. If you add a new map pool, they’ll probably need another lifetime to figure out how to play it.
That’s just a trollish, dismissive argument :
that is not a reason to never add new maps. By that logic, the map pool should stay frozen forever because someone, somewhere, still doesn’t know the old maps.
That’s exactly how you ruin a bury a good game.
Add new map wont make anything better.
Adding new maps that are similar to the existing ones is pointless—they only change some terrain and models, but the gameplay elements are essentially the same.
Adding completely different maps isn’t a good solution either. Players would need to spend a lot of time learning and adapting to them, but nowadays most people just play for fun and aren’t willing to invest that kind of effort.
Most importantly, as soon as you introduce new maps, you’ll see countless Ancients of War getting destroyed by creeps and countless heroes being killed by creeps. You think that’s fun?
You are assuming every new map has to be radically different. It is not.
A healthy map rotation introduces fresh maps that are balanced and familiar enough to learn quickly, while still creating new strategies and preventing the ladder from becoming stale. That’s exactly how competitive games keep things interesting.
And yes, for the first few weeks some players will lose a AoW or army / hero to creeps while learning. That is a normal part of adapting to new content ( I remember I was mad when I first saw a Succubus or the Ice Wendigo) - those are not reasons not to make new maps + even units!
The very fact that some maps are so similar is exactly why adding them is pointless. Two maps can have almost identical gameplay, yet players still have to memorize different Ancient of War placements to avoid pulling creeps. That adds nothing to the game—it’s just busywork for the players.
Also, your “first few weeks” comment tells me you don’t actually play this game. Even though our map pool has barely changed in years, I still regularly see Ancients of War getting destroyed by creeps and heroes dying to creeps. I’ve even seen players around the 5k MMR level cancel their Ancient of War twice at the start because he messed up the placement.
The more maps you add, the less familiar players become with each individual map. If you rotate maps every season, by the time an old map comes back, most players will have already forgotten how to play it efficiently.
And you expect Battle.net players—many of whom have been playing for years and still don’t even know the basic win condition—to memorize all these different maps? Give me a break.
You are still arguing against the players - so not against new maps.
Some players still mess up AoW placements after years on the same maps. Keeping the map pool frozen clearly doesn’t solve that. If someone refuses to learn new things, that is not a reason to deny new content to everyone else.
Any update should be made with the player base in mind.
W3Champions rotates its map pool every season because the players there practically live and breathe War3. Many of them play dozens of games every day. Even so, their understanding of every map still isn’t particularly deep. It’s common to see players call for a draw right at the start just because they don’t like a certain map.
Bnet is a completely different environment. Most players are casuals who only play a few games a week. And you want to keep updating the map pool for them? By the time they’ve finally learned what creeps are on each map and where everything is, it’ll already be the next season and the maps will change again.
It could be a reason why other players on W3C come back to BNET.
I know I would like to see some fresh maps in the map pool
We want new maps!
If possible, we would also love new NPCs, new heroes, and new units.
But most of all a new playable Naga race.
At the very least, please give us new maps!
Lutz, I’m so happy for you that you’ve finally learned to use modern AI chats, which have helped you improve your broken language. But when you ask Chatgpts to counter my posts, ask them to make more convincing arguments, because right now it sounds like they’re writing not a 2000 MMR player, but some high school kid who just started playing Warcraft.
Aren’t you tired of playing the same maps for years?
The argument that the audience will make more mistakes… That’s the ramblings of a madman. What are your goals in playing? To create impressive stats? Or to discover something new? Every new map is a new experience, a new exploration of tactics and playstyles. For example, right now, 4v4 only has two big maps and a lot of smaller ones, which negatively impacts gameplay. We need more big maps, preferably island maps like before. That would make the game even more interesting.
And noobs will never learn to play, even if they spend 10 years playing the same maps. Furthermore, just playing the same maps degrades their playstyle even more, because they completely forget how to use their brains and do everything automatically. This takes away any enjoyment from the process and accelerates dementia.
Bnet isn’t attracting new players anyway; you’re constantly playing with the same old faces. So at least make the gameplay interesting for the veterans. Otherwise, they’ll start leaving. And you’ll end up with nothing but noobs hoarding 9,000 gold every game.
Lol normal human wont need island map, its not war3. If you like island map, go play starcraft, who likes playing air/tower battle in island/forest goldmine maps? I ban all these clown maps.
There used to be a cool 3v3 map called River of Souls. I played it back in 2010. Veterans will remember. It’s entirely island-based, and all the mechanics are based on zeppelins. I think Hive Workshop should have similar maps that completely change the gameplay mechanics: using islands, water control with boats, and so on.
This is absolutely in the style and spirit of War3 (I assume you’ve played the basic campaign). Such maps were always present in the game’s early days. Only since the introduction of Reforged has Blizzard increasingly focused on smaller, meat-grinding maps that don’t require any brainpower.
I understand why you feel the current map pool needs to be changed since you can’t win on it. But your suggestion is way too extreme. Island maps with ships would be an entirely different game. It’s just like those 6v6 games only ground or random heroes—that’s not standard War3 anymore.
I’m not sure if you could be more inflammatory here if you tried. Sorry, RTS games are hard and not everyone can be as good as you.
Dude, we just want some more variety that’s all.
As I said, standard maps aren’t fundamentally different from one another. In most cases, all that changes is the creep camps with different skins. What’s the point? The core map elements—gold mines, shops, Goblin Laboratories, and so on—remain exactly the same. The only real differences are things like whether there’s a fountain and the overall map size.
As for what Architect suggested about adding island maps, that’s essentially a completely different game. Island expansions and forest expansions are not how standard Warcraft matches are supposed to work. They create extremely unhealthy gameplay.
You know there are even streamers who specifically play the old Lost Temple and Twisted Meadows just to expand to islands and turtle there. They can sit on those island bases defending for hours, wasting their opponents’ time. Even after the opponent has mined out every expansion on the mainland, they still can’t break the island base.
That’s not really imporntant. Different layouts, different visual themes, VARIETY, man. We don’t necessarily need new/unique mechanics or anything like that. It’s the spice of life.
If they didn’t remove all the naval combat from Warcraft II it would have been fine.
There actually is a Shipyard in the game as a neutral building, which only exists on a couple of maps that were never in a multiplayer rotation.
And you might not like that style of gameplay but there might be some people who do- that’s what the thumbs up/down system is for.
Island expansions and forest expansions fundamentally change the core design of War3. As everyone knows, heroes are the most important element in standard Warcraft gameplay. A high-level hero can completely overcome the disadvantage of being one expansion behind or even 20 supply down.
However, on maps with island or forest expansions, the game turns into something much closer to StarCraft—a pure resource war. Victory is decided primarily by towers, air units, and who controls more expansions. Heroes often end up getting sniped while riding transports or ships, making them far less influential. This completely changes the fundamental gameplay logic of War3.
