WC3 cannot initialize audio device

When I launch Warcraft III on my Mac Mini, I get an error that says it cannot initialize audio device. This only happens when I have my speakers plugged in to my Mac. If I connect my AirPods, the game launches fine. The speakers work fine with everything else — it’s just WC3. Any help or guidance you can provide would be appreciated.

Here is how to reproduce:

  1. I check and make sure my audio is working through my speakers
  2. I launch Battle.net
  3. I launch WC3
  4. Audio fails to initialize (but my sound is working everywhere else — just WC3 fails)

I found a workaround, but I would really like a permanent fix. Here’s the workaround:

  1. I connect my AirPods to my Mac
  2. I launch Battle.net
  3. I launch WC3
  4. Audio works, no error, via my AirPods
  5. I take my AirPods out, put them back in the case
  6. Audio in WC3 switches to my speakers and works throughout the entire game

I’d prefer not to “trick” WC3 into playing audio to my speakers, but this workaround is reliable.

That’s pretty bizzare, but I’m actually impressed the game is working on your Mac at all, given a lot of people can’t seem to get it to work in the slightest.

i have the same problem on windows 10. theres no audio option at all, the bar for it is blank. i have no sound and cant find a work around at all.
