We already know Blizzard isnt remaking WC1 because the game just isnt worth it, and IMO a remake of WC2 might be better as an add-on for WC3, instead of a separate game, because it would keep the community together. Plus WC2 already has the perfect artstyle!
It would be amazing if Blizzard could add WC2 unit and character models into the World Editor (hopefully with their original artstyle or similar) just like they did with Armies of Azeroth for SC2. This would open up a lot more variety and creativity for map makers to make their own custom maps based on the original game.
Also would be awesome to have the original WC2 soundtrack (as an option) to listen to mixed with the standard WC3 soundtrack! I might even be willing to pay for all of this if it was released as a small DLC pack
Once again, I’d like to express my 100% support in favour of those ideas. All WC1 and WC2 units and buildings, and maybe spells, sounds and icons, would be absolutely amazing for map creators.
Of course, modelers could make those models themselves, but if those models are to match Reforged art style, they have to be HD. And I suppose HD models are much harder to design than low-poly models we currently have, which means that WC2 models created by players might never happen. I’d definitely pay for old school models.
Good idea about the soundtrack too, as an option (maybe with a higher quality, if possible?)
I was working on some War2-based models back when I was modding SC2. I’d love to take a crack at a Reforged style, I’m just waiting for the tools and documentation they mentioned.
Here’s the Death Knight I made for SC2. It’s kinda janky because it was using War3 Death Knight animations which aren’t ideal for a higher-poly unit like this, and I’m not an animator. I think this shouldn’t be much of an issue for Reforged since those limitations are pretty much gone.
I’ve said it before in another thread or two, but that’s why I’m really hoping that in the Reforged editor they have some rudimentary kind of model editor. Just clipping out bits of units you want and stapling them to another.
Like if I just can remove a footman’s sword but add in a grunt’s axe. Replace his shield with a spellbreaker shield. Dumb, simple stuff like that which would take more time to reproduce considering the Reforged artstyle and overall improvement in comparison to Warcraft 3.
The one thing I wish we could get out of a ‘WC2 Remastered’ is updated sound files. The sound quality really doesn’t hold up.
And maybe updated soundtrack too, I’d love to hear an updated or orchestrated version of the tracks. I can live with the same graphics and cinematics, they have their own charm.
