Warcraft III Reforged is filling up my C: drive

Dear Blizzard,

I have installed Warcraft III on my D: drive as my C: drive is a 120GB SSD.
You have filled my C: drive up with excessive log files exceeding gigabytes in filesize. One such report is 16GB in filesize - what the actual F? I’m assuming your poorly designed game went into a loop and crashed when I ran out of C: drive space.

I do not see the need for you to log things such as “Removing old/extra log file: battle.net-20200228T073228.457435.log”.

Please stop this practice or at least allow me to move the location of the logs to another drive immediately.

This should be considered a priority one for your developers.

By the way, the log file is 16GB in size because of the following messages:

I think we get the message.

Deleting the log file now.

Edit: In the meantime, I will move the logs myself using mklink. But I really shouldn’t have to do this, why not use my Documents folder which is already located on D:?

Edit 2: The offending process was Agent.exe - the Battle net application.

Thanks.

Gobble

Gobble,

Under normal circumstances, the logs do not get anywhere near that size. Typically when I see that problem it’s due to a permission error or security program preventing the application from both operating and tidying its logs correctly. Those files should be a couple kilobytes.

If you’ve got any third party security, I’d recommend updating them and temporarily uninstalling them if that fails. You also want to ensure that your windows is up to date as windows defender can theoretically cause this as well if it’s out of date. Beyond that, you can work with our support team to look for more options. We can use some files on your PC to try to find the culprit.

Hi Drakuloth,

Permissions issues would be completely avoided if you used my Documents folder in the first place. The NTFS permissions are stock standard. The AppData folder is inheriting permissions from the C:\Users\username folder, and I do not use a third party antivirus (Windows Defender) that would otherwise be blocking access to this folder. The logfiles exist, the root cause of the issue is that the filesize was excessive and it is caused by the above quoted messages which had millions of entries.

My OS updates automatically and is currently running Win10 1909 build 18363.720 - up to date according to Windows Update.

I would consider this more of a bug report than a technical support issue. Though I do appreciate your suggestion of reinstalling the game, I would rather uninstall the game than to wait a day on my 4G connection to download again, the game itself runs fine on my system. The other logfiles were approximately 90-400kb in size. Every time I exit the game a crash report is generated and sent to Blizzard so I believe your team may have already received the information they need.

Best Regards,

Gobble.

Heya Gobble,

For app suggestions, can you hit up the Desktop App feedback forums? We in support are just here to troubleshoot things and try to provide explanations where we can.

I can’t speak for why the devs chose to do things this way, but I will say we’re not unique in this behavior among patching apps like ours. If you run other game installer clients which service multiple games, you may see similar logfiles in programdata, localappdata, appdata, etc. All depends on what other installers you run. I’d wager there’s some reason behind why it’s structured that way.

No worries, I’ll head to that forum later on.

Cheers Drakuloth, have a good one!
