Warcraft I & Warcraft II Remastered

I’m very pleased with the artwork and playing the Human campaign. Thank you for delivering this piece of history Classic Team.

I’m glad they did it, but it was rather low effort…

There was not art department used for those two games, but AI aesthetics. And many features where removed such as Warcraft I multiplayer.

War 1 was old when I was a kid, lol. War 2 was more my era. Kinda afraid of playing it thou as even with a remaster not sure how well it has aged.

This is mainly because War2 got a Windows release (battle.net edition) and thus had semi-modern systems for online multiplayer in the present day already. Warcraft 1 was only ever a DOS game to my knowledge and did not. You had to use a modem or direct connection, and these are just… not things that are readily supported in this day and age.

As for art… Even if they didn’t employ AI, there still wasnt any need for any artists. Conventional tools can still achieve upscaling without AI. Hiring artists to actually redraw all the pixel art would have aboslutely put these war1/2 releases out of the realm of possibility, and there was no reason to do that when multiple other, cheaper methods were possible. Like I said, it was low effort and I agree with that and I am generally critical of the use of AI outside of information retrieval and analysis. But… it does still end up looking at least a little nicer on modern displays than the old graphics. Mostly because these games came out in the CRT era and most old pixel art games end up looking way better on a CRT if viewed at their original resolution.
