Warcraft 3 Setup can’t be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software

After downloading the install app, my Mac says it won’t install because the app won’t allow apple to test for malicious software and to contact the developer

Same problem for me…anything we can do?

If you open Settings and go to Security and Privacy, there could be a “Open Anyway” button in the bottom, that would whitelist the app.

Let the rest know whether or not this solves the issue

(Google " Safely open apps on your Mac" and follow the link to apples support site)

Have you tried: Highlight app icon in Finder > Press Commando I > Unlock the little padlock on the right bottom > Choose “Read and Write” under Sharing and Permissions (or whatever it is called in English)… I don’t know if it will help

I tried that and restarted the whole process. Still get some error message

Btw, Mac users, after downloading Reforged, can you play and/or open old WC3? I’m wondering about this…

Just tried that. No effect

You should be able to force the program to open somehow. Have you tried whitelisting it in preferences, opened it as Admin and changed permission to Read and Write?

Are you logged in as Admin?

Ok After going into my preferences and Security I was able to force it to load. But for whatever reason, it kept giving the error message until I just closed the installer error message and opened the installer directly from my security preferences page

For those of you who are having the error Warcraft 3 Setup can't be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software - this is on our radar right now. Please note that if you receive any other error message, you are not seeing the same thing that this thread is for and should troubleshoot the issue individually. In the mean time, can anybody impacted by the issue do the following:

  1. Let us know which Mac OS build you’re on (you can check this from your system profiler. Example version numbers would be 10.15.2 or 10.14.6)
  2. Try using the Battle.net installer instead of the Warcraft 3: Reforged installer from this link.
  3. If all else fails or you get errors with the Battle.net Application installer, use the steps in this article to manually allow the installer through. The steps to manually open it are under "How to open an app that hasn’t been notarized or is from an unidentified developer"

Please let us know how this works for you.

I can’t even get it to download on my Mac - it gets a failed error just moments after starting the download…

Heya MadTeeJ,

Typically the “Network Failed” error is related to network security. I normally see players bypass this error using a different network temporarily when downloading the file. I have also seen a factory reset on the router/modem resolve the issue.

Hope this info helps!
