What are your thoughts ln walls if they were added?
Early walls be really weak but upgrade to stone from wood later.
Instead of strategic farm placement there can be an actual building for it.
Then siege becomes stronger and important.
Siege seems risky to me unless air. Expensive and no real way of guarding it while moving to enemy base.
Plus having no walls makes a weird (Base is just there on flat land unguarded feel)
Base layout more compact and thought out. If all farms are one spot and wall breachs the siege aoe or ability (earthquake) could wipe alot fo resource etc.
Not a lategame idea more early/mid game becomes an option to build. Cheaper than farm more wood I guess.
Thoughts? Though I believe wc4 might be a better choice to test this out though.
From a game play mechanics point of view walls would cause issues, having to devote time, resources, and workers(on top of the ones you have building your actual base/farms) would be kind of a pain.
Also, between tree walls that occur naturally and the terrain itself, actual walls can seem a tad superfluous.
beyond that walls would have zero effect against flyers and though clever placement would make defensive towers nigh impossible for non-siege ground units to deal with.
At least not without suffering some nasty casualties…
Now from a common sense point of view, sure walls would be dandy.
or at the very least a fence or gate or something.
I mean if we’re going for 100% realism here then you’d think they’d use a barricade or something no?

the only benefit walls had were getting peons out of being stuck in a small spot… now if you want to discuss GATES that would be different
never suggest replacing strategy… unless you are talking specifically about custom games
can you explain how a wall would be different from a non-upgraded human scout tower (aside from being higher armor)? would there ever be a reason to build a wall of scout towers with extra armor reinforcements??
If they allowed players to build 2 corner pieces and the rest of the wall magically appeared (like in age of empires) it would only be used for trolling, have you ever seen an undead trap a hero with ziggurats? walls would be even worse
Age of empires was designed around walls. Warcraft III was not. It would require huge changes to gameplay, something that would upset a lot of people who are used to and like the current gameplay.
That said if there was a Warcraft IV then walls should probably be considered seeing how prominent they are in World of Warcraft.
The resources and time isnt that bad. Wall build time very short like 5-10 seconds cost like 20 gold 20 wood each unit. Gate like 75G 75W.
Resistant to tier 1 attacks to make it work till early-mid game. Tier 2 makes it useless.
Like tier 1 attack defense take 50% dmg.
This is because if it is only melee dmg or air other types early game archer can harass give NE advantage.
At tier 2 it can become useless but still be there as extra protection. Like current farm but you really dont lose anything of “REAL” value then.
Like no food cap loss just tower that doesnt need to be replaced. It would also allow defender to get abit of an edge vs a push from outside base via using ranged units.

please stop trying to change the game, and just accept it for what it is… you clearly dont play it very much because you would know theres already walls/gates in the map editor for custom maps but melee doesnt need them, I mean there have been melee maps with gates (just not the ones you can build yourself) and nobody wants them cause it just slows the game down, how many times does it need to be explained in different ways for you to understand? theres many other games you can play if you want walls
You should try and work in game development, if you suggested things like “maybe in the next game” you wouldnt have a job very long lol

I mean, I’ve seen players build farms inside the enemy base just to scout and the enemy doesnt kill it cause it would slow them down… its just a game bro its not supposed to seem realistic, if gta5 was realistic and u had to refil you gas tank or go to the bathroom every 10 minutes the game would be boring… realism does not equal fun, video games are meant to be an escape from reality by giving us something exaggerated imaginative and creative
