Varok Saurfang and Nathanos special models

So in the start of the prologue campaign of wc3 reign of chaos. Thrall speaks to Varok Saurfang about where Grommash currently is. And in the lore of Nathanos he was one of the casualties in Stratholme. So will there be special models for secondary important characters other than just a grunt or citizen model?

Huh Saurfang was in WC3?

That young grunt in the prologue wasn’t that him?

No, it’s a nameless grunt.

Yeah, in the actual game there was just a nameless grunt. But in the lore Saurfang was in fact present during the events of Warcraft 3. I would love to see some notions to it, even just as slight as mentioned, like a grunt having a name and some dialogue instead of that typical nameless grunt. Having a special model would be extra cool.

As a lore fan and a WC3 fan, I’d have to cast my vote in as a “no”. I don’t mind them giving characters that are already in the game new lines and minor retcons, but I think it starts and ends there. I think the only exception I’d be cool with is Falric, but in name only. This works because we don’t have any established character voice and personality associated with him.

If you redo the opening cutscene with Varok as the grunt, then we have to think about voice casting, the way he looks, etc. Varok is a generation above Thrall, even his son is older than Thrall. He’s far from young in WC3. It wouldn’t feel right him just being a young grunt.

Nathanos you could get away with as an Easter egg by simply having a unique villager / zombie called Nathanos.

Saurfang already has a voice actor. I think he can get 5 minutes somewhere so they can record him saying “No Warchief. We haven’t heard from Hellscream in some time.” Also, the model doesn’t really need to be that special. Just a grunt with a bit cooler shoulders and an older face or something. Even though something cooler than that would be awesome, and not at all impossible, if they are making unit skins anyway: one of them could easily a Saurfang skin for the grunt.

Little things like this would exactly be something really nice, without still affecting the flow or gameplay of the campaign. Yet, they would be nice little details for those who have played WoW to think, “ah, that’s that guy I know!” What’s wrong with that?
