Unit movement need an update

I am new on this game and I know the game need to be patched on tons of bugs, but im thinking a mayor priority now should be unit movment general game mechanic

Compare the move on star craft 2 vs WC3 Reforge

On SC2 units move and respond faster and and they never stuck with terrain or other units, the IA always find a way to order the units and grup up them correctly acording to the player command

On WC3 if you move your army a cross the map they stuck with other units or terrain even stop if they come to close from other unitson, 0% cordination causing random results on battles between the armies

-reduce the gap limit between units 25%
-units need to turn arround 50% more fast

I dont think blizzard check this kind of post but its my sugestion to improve the game.

This is a core gameplay change that would actually screw up a lot of custom maps. Even Dota 2 preserved Wc3’s movement due to the fact the entire game is balanced around it.

It would also probably screw up the balance of the RTS. Every unit has a different turn rate.

They can at least update the movement frames by making it faster and smoother without affecting base speed. It wouldn’t hurt for old graphics to get an update on fps so that it could sync with Reforged. Wc 3 is a beautiful intricate game but it gets hampered by choppiness and poor latency.

I agree that game mechanic should be updated a lot. Moving, collision, pathfinding and lot of other things look really deprecated. Yes, they are from 2002 original wc3, but it’s 2020, and game must be updated, otherwise there is no future for this game and no new players will be interested. That’s actually what I expected from rrforged. I thought It would be some kind of warcraft 3.5. Old game with new graphics and mechanics. But it’s still the same good but old wc3 with deprecated everything

Yeah, pathfinding in wc3 is horrible, but they won’t fix it since they want to keep the game mechanics in its original state… I doubt it would change balancing too much though,

Why would you ever expect that?

As pointed out, Dota 2 is a new game, and retains wc3’s movement.

I would like it changed. But I know it is a big change for the game, maybe too big.

Nope. Play a different game.

It takes getting used to. It is NOT starcraft 2. Learn how to manage it, there are lots of tricks that help you win games. Hold position is awesome. Force move is good. Dont click across the map or your army will go there in a line. Move up 10 feet, let your army ball up. 10 feet more, ball up. 10 feet more, ball up. Meanwhile, you can send your hero alone to do damage. If he sends his army after your hero you end up tying him in knots! A lot of the time, its all about making your army more balled up than your opponents.

have you guys tried pressing “m” whenever you move locations with a big army? It’s supposedly automatically set the units path movements smoother and sort out itself by letting smaller units go first etc.

Perhaps Blizz should default “m” or add some pieces of codes from “m” movement hotkey and add to default move to make path movement smoother.

Is ‘m’ not just the keyboard hotkey for right-click? Are you sure that there is a difference in moving whether you are pressing ‘m’ or right-click?

I read it on the Blizz units thing somewhere when I was trying to figure out custom hotkeys. It mentions how pressing “m” makes the pathing easier for the units by letting smaller units through the clunkier units etc.

Here taken from the usurp of the Bnet hotkeys summary for Wc 3. You can verify it by googling Wc 3 hotkeys and go to their official page.

Bypassing Formations
When a group of units is given the Move command, they will all move in formation, occasionally pausing along the way to let slower units move into position to maintain the integrity of the formation. If you instead want the units to move to a location at best possible speed, you may hold down the Alt button while right-clicking on their destination.

The data seemed oddly specific about the hotkey for move, especially under sub-group, formation hotkeys. If they wanted to just say move, they’d just say it as right-click or something and also people aren’t seeing the formation when mouse is used as evidenced by one of these posts, on top of that mouse isn’t a hot-key. I also just read the alt+click ? Alt gives them a speed-boost or better pathing somehow?

Also another thing to keep in mind is players are fast-clicking to keep their apm up at well, which could disrupt any formation in anyway.

Yeah, this is not StarCraft 2. That game has a button to select your whole army. Click attack move on the enemy base and you win. It’s ridiculous.

Ok guys, I conducted some tests, the m key is the same as the right click key. HOWEVER, the alt key + right click is different! Holding down the ALT key + right click moves differently. Instead of waiting for each other to pass through, it will let any units all rush forward which makes pro-surround easier to do! Basically you can make an instant box-in formation and will remain locked as long as you hold alt as they move in unison. It seems pretty fun. I tried it with all assortment of units, and this opens up to pro-surround sound systems on a different level.

You could test it yourselves. March your group of units up and down in a linear line as normal, and they’ll clunk up a bit and let the hero and main units through when you move them up and down. When you use ALT + move, it makes all units move up and down in unison. This will be good by letting smaller or any units block or surround instead of waiting for assortment of other heroes or units to go through and clunk up.

eh, once you adjust to Warcrafts movement, it feels right.
Its a little traumatic at first if youre coming from League of Legends, but doesnt take long to get into the groove of it.

It just says “Move command” and not m-hotkey. A units move command can be either invoked by rightclicking or by pressing m and leftclicking, but both invoke the same command.

The explained behaviour is even toggleable in the UI next to the minimap… There is a button with a lot of small dots in formation. When pressed they are more loosely aligned, which toggles the behaviour to the alt-click way.
But this doesn’t change the general pathfinding algorithm which is way stupid and often makes your own untis block each other.

Interesting though that with alt-rightclick you can break formation. I usually toggle formation off anyway to have my units walk as fast as possible.

Oh I got to check the formation toggles out. As for the Alt + move, it’s good for getting out of choke points or escapes as well as it just forces any units to go forward or where you click, instead of then clunking up, waiting for units to go through or brushing against the sides of terrains.

Yeah, and formational movement probably is good in fight or close-to-a-fight situations to have your ranged units at the backline and your melee units blocking infront.

No offence, but you are a noob and you have absolutely no clue about the game!
Changing the movement mechanics would kill most of the micro actions and would kill the game on the long run.
