No I didn’t. The point is you’re comparing things that shouldn’t be compared. Situations differ greatly from WoW
What you’re claiming is basically all the updates from WoW classic to current WoW are bad, which is completely false. And then using that comparison on a completely different type of game to justify a 12 unit selection limit.
Soon the Ortodox “true players” wing here, comes with dogma, that you shold play it on your 2003 PC otherwise you are blasphemer too. I think 12 units is too much. They shold make it 4 like in Warcraft: Orks and humans, technology go too far. Yes i will crash all those newbs with my 10 x 4 unit groups!
??? How so? That’s such a ridiculous and bland statement! With 5 likes! The pros have salvaged Reforged! Every bit of feedback has helped so far! From the Footy’s shield to the grass!
I think the 12-unit selection cap is indefensible. This is not Brood War. That cap is not a core mechanic like upkeep.
The footman shield looks like crap and the pros (or just Grubby really) could have learned how to identify the footmen in another way for “quick counting?!”…lol
From what I’ve seen, it’s not really the shield, it’s that the demo Footmen held it to the side, whereas in the original and in the Beta, they’re holding it in front.
Of course people will try the competitive mode. I will be one that will try it. But I will not play it. And new people will not play it. Warcraft 3 competitive mode is not good and it’s too dated.
New people will play this game for campaign, casual matches with friends and custom games.
Just like it happened in the past, most people will never touch competitive. The ones that will play, will be people that would already play it.
Get someone that never played an RTS before to try to play the game and watch how they will get frustated. As I said, even selecting units is a big struggle for them.
Now take a look at how many of the playerbase played competitive multiplayer. You really think that today we will have a higher % of the new playerbase playing competitive multiplayer? Come on.
Okay but there’s more to the game than just standard melee play and more to approach it with whether it’s that, customs, or campaign. Granted a lot of customs stray from traditional basebuilding RTS.
No, maybe we should both -
I’m saying that all-encompassing blanket statements are fun and easy to make but sometimes they can be inaccurate.
People are talking about an interface and usability problem and you come here talking about core gameplay as if they are the same thing.
Age of empires 1 and 2 did not even had an ATTACK MOVE option. You would argue AGAINST adding it to the game, but they rightfully added it into the game, because it’s a big usability issue that helps all the players.
Even AUTO-FARM-RESEED was added, because, again, it was a big interface and usability problem of the game.
If you want to defend the 12-unit restriction, at least be honest and stop with these fallacies.
How is it a false equivalency to call out what is intentional argument?
He said people new to the game will turn away from the game because of the UI. If that is the case then there are hundreds of any reason for them to stop playing too, because there is no standard to what a new player would accept or not accept in terms of a ~20 year old game. The UI is by far the least of WC3’s worries of appealing to any new player.
And no, this is not equivalent to AoE not having attack move. Warcraft 3 is very much balanced around specific micro of units, not a macro-style A-move gameplay by selecting all units, so it’s not actually a problem. WC3 promotes the use of multiple control groups to play properly.
So what is the problem with 12 unit selection? There is none, because it is part of how the game is literally played.
The fallacy comes from the argument that we need to change a remake of a 20 yr old game because new players are gonna leave because of the old UI. Well, any new player coming to WC3 will have to adjust to the game not the other way around, just like playing any classic game like SC:R or Diablo 1.
Let’s not all pretend that unlimited selection will ‘fix’ players not liking the UI for whatever reason. It isn’t relative to keep them playing WC3 if they can’t deal with the way an old game plays. You think they’d love the square collision and horrendous AI pathing that still exists in WC3 too? Or would they also want that changed?
