Unit management ! So obsolete

The game has survived for almost 20 years. It doesn’t need to be “easier” to attract players, it just needs an update where a unit’s head didn’t look like a block of cheese.

If that’s what you mean, then I’m sure Starcraft I also survives and is a good game because there are still (few) players playing the game. Oh, and with an upgrade in graphics, it did attract many new players, right?

This seems both pessimistic and false.

OMG! for those new players : first of all, W3 is a unique game with unique rules of play, its nothing like the others RTS games, its original and a trend setter game that in the 2000s every company wanted to follow and copy.

There is a reason why we have limited 12 units, if u change that it’s not W3 anymore and the originality its gone, it will be like every other game.

That’s why AGAIN with reforged Brian Sousa and the team decided to go for realistic art style, to try something new ( while also keeping the same gameplay) and not a cartoony style like every other RTS or moba. Blizzard has been a trend setter and with reforged they might make RTS genre more alive /popular, plus with the new AOE coming in 2020 i can see more games might get remastered or get a new sequel.

Stop asking for SC, AOE, LOTR etc,

I didn’t realize mythic dungeons in WoW had high player counts to correspond to a high viewer count. False equivalency. Your argument regarding streaming still makes no sense.

My main point is if you actually use control groups like everyone suggests, which is an easy skill that only requires a minimum of practice to adjust to (far less than building in fortnite, even!), the game becomes so much easier, to the point that you almost never even wish you could control more than 12 at a time. The whole thing is blown out of proportion.

Yeah let’s stop the argument here, then. At the end of the day, we all hope this game is successful. And no matter if I or you are right, lets hope that’s the case for Reforged.

Why you are trying to remove this phrase from the context of COMPETITIVE MULTIPLAYER?

Yes Blizzard lisent to this feedback, give them 100 limit group so they can put all units (meele, range, mechanical, flying units, heroes) ALL IN ONE GROUP cause its great for noob players, remove the taxes and make it like starcraft, maybe even add 20 new races like AOE, remove the creeps from map and make it when the hero comes out that he is lvl 10, so they dont need too creep…i really dont like this new kids came too reforged who will anyway play this game for 1 month and then go back too fortnite, battle royal games, etc… but they would compleatly destroy the game mechanics which are pretty unique and which make warcraft so good, because its not the easyest game it needs so much time too invest too get better, but this noobs just want too make from warcraft something which warcraft never was!

It is a blatant copy of Battle Realms, as admitted by Blizzard, and stated by the rest of the industry, back when it launched.
You need to learn video gaming history.

No one has ever copied the Warcraft 3 formula, because it almost killed RTS as a whole, and unleashed the dawn of the MOBA.
Go back and see what kind of RTS games were release after War3, throught the years, and see how they compare to it.

In many regards, Starcraft Brood war was the trend setter. War3 was always a stand alone type of game. Armies of Exigo, which was universally called a Warcraft clone, basically copied Starcraft and Warcraft 2 (themes and race variety, though it was a very well polished game and more balanced than both, at release).

Nah, I’m about as Old Guard as they come, and for Custom Maps I 100% agree there should be a way to break the 12 unit selection cap. Melee I can see it since you rarely have more than 12 units of a type, unless you’re box selecting, so it’s really not an issue in that mode.

Custom maps for sure needs a way to break that limit though.

Actually completely untrue lol. No one copied it because it’s the literal only RPG-RTS hybrid game of it’s kind. They copied plenty of OTHER aspects, like how it essentially ushered in an entire age of modding previously unseen. Find me another game that let its users so clearly edit its core gameplay as Wc3 did. SC1 had an editor sure, but it had none of the Wc3 usability, nor the JASS flexibility/modularity.

The fact is that Wc3’s modding and overall game/hero design directly led to the creation of DotA/LoL, of which LoL is now the highest concurrent-user game in the world.

Your claim that Armies of Exigo is “Wc3 done better” is always going to be false, as they implemented a unit-EXP system, rather than a hero system with far narrower choices, and not nearly as much room for community expansion. That’s why Wc3 (made three and a half years before) still has 15k+ regular users every week before Reforged was even announced.

Warlods Battlecry and Spellforce integrated RTS and RPG far better than Warcrfat 3 did.
In WBC you even had random quests in the mioddle of the game, permanent items and levels, and a Retinue system, across 16 races in the last game of that series.
Spellforce was even better in this regard, having proper RPG campaign maps (even full campaigns), while also having a deeper resource and army systems than Warcraft 3.

All War3 has from a RPG standpoint, is leveling and item mechanics. For everything else, a lot of other games did it better.

They really should remove the unit limit from selection and add F2 to select all army units. This is great for new players and something that would make more people play it and/or stick with it. PRO’s already use control groups since its more efficient by far (in W3 and SC2). So this will ONLY impact new players or those that are not that good but want to play.

The bigger the community the better for everyone. More engagement with the game means more stuff Blizz makes for said game.

“oh my god, 12 units control group in a game where your army doesn’t go above 24 units 99% of the games is so hard!!!
it’s so hard to use 2 control groups instead of just one!!!”

you kids are just beyond bad, blizzard could make this game a “press 1 button win game” you would still complain about it being too hard for you.

The 12 unit selection is a relic of the past, and all this talk about it making the game unique is so frekin pointless to put it mildly. CnC games like red alert 2 or tiberian sun had no limit and to a point still have a massive multiplayer community and a very active modding community and they have no selection limit. Granted warcraft 3 has a much bigger emphasis on micro, while CnC is more macro oriented, but the point is - if the limit was 16 units, then people would defend the 16 limit not ask for a 12 unit. If it was 20 units, same thing. People like to cling to a past crap that the so called pro players call a skill thing, because in their minds it makes them sound interesting and bad a.ss - but it doesn’t. It just makes you sound like an old man screaming to his nephews how modern music sucks and back in his days real music was singing. It’s not just a matter of convenience - it simply makes unit management more of a frustration than a feature - and yeah i’m mostly speaking about custom games since in 15 years of playing this awesome game i never give a crap about multiplayer. If you have a paladin in group 1 you can heal any damaged unit in group 1 just by clicking on it’s icon in the selection group. But if you have 2 groups, and you want to heal a unit in group 2 you can’t really do that like this, you gotta now look for that damaged unit directly on the field, which takes away your attention from the battle itself, to finding that 1 fken unit that needs healing. And this is just 1 example, of why a unlimited or massively increased selection group feels way more organic and better - because since this is a game with an f.ton of ability use, it makes said ability use much simpler by giving you the ability to easily select what unit an ability is used on in the group by it’s icon, rather than search for it on the screen in a bloob of units all running around like idiots, since another relic of the past that is holy and should not be touched is unit pathfinding which is horrible. Pro players most of the times are fken retarded - i follow grubby for example and alot of his complains makes my head explode - i mean how the F do you not see the difference between a skeleton warrior that has a fken shield and sword in his hands and a ghoul that looks like the hunchback of notre dame. How can you still push for even more team color because for some reason you can’t fken recognize your units when the unit team color scheme has already increased and many units now look like they have more team color than actual texture. If anything this should be a choice - this is how you make everyone happy - you give a choice. Have a frekin option that allows you to enable or disable the 12 unit selection limit in the game’s options. Those who wanna feel like they have some imaginary amazing skill that makes them special and no one gives a crap can just keep their 12 unit limit. Those who wanna enjoy a more modern gameplay can just uncheck this option and have as many units selected as possible - and just make it a compatibility option - if in multiplayer, both players have to have this option either checked or unchecked in order to play with eachother. I will never understand why some people wanna shove their crap on everyone else’s throat instead of pushing for something as good as having options - in this case limit or no limit.

The even bigger Horde of new cutomers, if they actually want to make a proffit, and not lose even more jobs.

I will ask this again: why you removed this phrase from the context of COMPETITIVE MULTIPLAYER ?

Loyal old school fans (i consider myself as 1 and i hated unit management even back than) or new players (or Stupid newbs as “Better” guys here call them), WHO will blizzard listening to? The only correct answer is BOTH. OTHERWISE the game wont be competetive against other games and it will be FLOP. Thas exactly what me as a fan dont want to see happend. Listen to all fans is the only way to go if you want to succeed.

That would imply that we can reach a consensus. As it is, we can plainly see this is not an option.
