The starting MMR is 5,000, and that is where you begin your placements when you start playing for the first time.
This MMR is way too high for new players. Someone who has a decent understanding of the game hopping on to play multiplayer will get stomped with dozens of losses until they settle a full 1,000 MMR lower. I speak from experience. It took me a monumental loss streak to reach a settled 3,800 MMR where I can feel I’m playing around a similar skill level.
This is an awful experience for new players. The starting MMR should be far lower. People can’t smurf reliably with the high investment cost of buying another reforged key. And new players are going to go against those higher tier players anyway, needing to lose their way down the ladder.
Make the starting MMR an actual starting point, pointed towards newer players.
It’s arbitrary. It is the median value for the entire MMR scale. The starting MMR value is mostly irrelevant anyway, as people will rise or fall from that starting value depending on their success or failiure. There only needs to be enough MMR range above and below the starting value to allow players to naturally spread through the bell curve.
And thus, if you bias the starting MMR lower, due to the fixed potential for earning MMR, it will just become more impossible for the higher level players to reach the highest tiers- and new players might hit a floor- And if that happens, you run into a problem where the system can not possibly distinguish players on skill because they all have the same minimum MMR.
So I respect your desire to improve the noob/new player experience, but this would be better served by simply increasing MMR gain/loss for a longer period to accelerate players to their expected MMR range.
Our famous kid still say someone no sence.
The question is not about starting mmr, blz kid have no idea about mmr system, leaver/dcer -mass mmr even his team win (far more than he lose game). So the sum of mmr reduce always. If people play 1 years blz mmr system. everyone gonna be close 0 mmr.
I placed 4600 and lost every placement game because everyone i played was WAY above 4.6k. Still matched against people way above 4600 and I’m at 4200 now. How can I learn the game, computer isn’t fun and I win against them. But I go online and I’m forced to get stomped by sweaters.
