During my 3 hour delve into the campaign, I noticed several things that seem… Well, something that playtesters would have caught. I assume. Might just be my rig but I somewhat doubt it.
- Sometimes the selected unit or group of units don’t play any sounds when selected or given commands. This is “fixed” when using the subgroups to select another unit within that group, but comes back as soon as the unit with the original issue is selected again. This mostly happens with heroes. As an aside, some people might like that, not having the unit always reply but my own nostalgia goggles and hearing aides just crave hearing Thrall saying “Lok-regar no’gul.” Side effect of this bug also means pissed lines aren’t played, which is extra annoying (Fitting given the lines in question).
- Sometimes units replay death sounds multiple times, probably due to some erronous code interacting with corpses and their fading time (On a side note, really loving the variety of death sounds on units)
- Some terrain in campaign missions is not properly aligned. For example: Countdown to Extinction, on a small island near the starting cinematic that’s only really visible via cheats or Thrall’s Far Sight ability shows a bit of clipping between ground textures. This is on max settings at 1920x1080 resolution.
- Somewhat of a nitpick, but the intro mission where we rescue Grommash now only refers to him as Hellscream, rather than Grom like in the original. Very noticeably changed lines too. Like, it sounds like it was done in 5 minutes by an intern with Audacity.
- Here’s a mission-specific issue. The TFT mission interlude Boiling Point has this point where it has the background fog be cut while the enviroment comes close. It made me sigh in disappointment.
- Using cheats to skip levels doesn’t prevent you from gaining portraits for beating campaigns on story, normal or hard. Took me like 5 minutes to get through everything and now I have a shiny Frozen Throne portrait on me.
- During the course of
doingskipping all the campaigns, I crashed on 5 separate occasions, always between missions. I also noticed that autojoining W3General did not work from the 3rd crash onwards, no clue what’s up with that.
All in all, I am underwhelmed by what is given here. Probably can’t get a refund at this point but I seriously wanna see these issues at least somewhat fixed.
If nothing else, at least I have the old client installers on my hard drive ready.
