Title says everything. I like more realistic approach to models, but I don’t understand why they are making such big shoulderpads. For example, Arthas and Footman. Now they can’t see anything from left and right, enemy can easily sneak to them from rear and kill. It’s very unnatural and non-practical. If team cling to reality as they claim, they should make also realistic armament. I hate rule of cool, it’s ruining immersion.
Its for better defending of humanity, but who is the best defenders of humanity? Right. The Spesss Mahrines. And to make a Horus Heresy reference in the end.
This has been part of Blizzard’s art style since the mid-90’s. It’s a hallmark of their design, and enjoyed by fans for decades.
It’s unlikely that it will change now.
Nope, It wasn’t in any Warcraft, even in Warcraft 3. It became in WoW, when they started to make even more ridiculous armor sets each expansion.
Sure. Footman looks like warrior in lats, not like first generation of terminator armor from early warhammer rulebooks.
The shoulder pads are there for unit recognition. Without those amazing shoulder pads the humans would look too dull.
The Footman as it he is now looks nowhere like the old model and does not to seem to feel the same. The overall color of a group is changed a lot with this new footman.
And the shoulders are ridicoulusly large. How would someone fight with these blinker?
Definitely agree, this is the biggest WoW allusion in the game right now.
I wouldn’t mind it so much if it didn’t make units like the paladin look like he has a shrunken head
I agree that the shoulder pads are way to large.
If I was given a choice between the look of wow armour or wc3, I would definitely go with the old school wc3 look. Personal preference I suppose. I just feel as though the large should pads and excessive armour detail blur the distinctive look between units
The thing is - they look large only in closeups. They look absolutely fine from a zoomed out view, and actually makes them more readable.
I thought about having weapons and shoulders scaled down for Arthas, but thinking about it it would only make him less noticeable on the battlefield. I mean Blizzard could definitely try to tweak it and see if it looks as readable or impressive in RTS view while not having it look as ridiculous in cutscenes as it is right now.
The Footman of “Armies of Azeroth” looks more like it.
huge shoulder pads are iconic to warcraft, and enhance your badassness to a ludicrous degree.
I can’t shake it, nostalgia has me leaning towards the original design however I really do like the design, detail and sheer badassery of the new.
It will take some getting used to but that in itself is somewhat exciting, I feel like it is a new refreshed experience and of course if I don’t like it I can just change to the original graphics.
Still, I think they overshot the mark a little. Even a 10% decrease in size might be enough to get Arthas and the Footman looking a little more proportionate. It’s a bit too much right now. Most other units are fine though.
Orcs, Uther, the default Paladin, and so on, they all have properly proportioned pauldrons.
So, you’re saying you never played WC, WC2, or WC3?
That’s fine, actually. Welcome to the franchise, where big shoulderpads abound!
dude, look at the cover for Wc2 and WC3
They were always big, but big is not always the same big as big. Which is to say, they’re a bit too big right now and could do to be a little less big. But still big.
Do not forget that a lot of designs in Reforged stem not from WoW but from the very WC3 cinematics. I find them mostly glorious.
Admittedly, there is big, and there is big.
They will probably remain big, as that is the best way to quickly distinguish between teams… one of the reasons for their implementation in the first place.
Also, big.
I think it’s actually you who never played them. Or your memory is really weak. Search for Warcraft 2 artworks on google, and look how Blizzard style looked back then.
