Request: In-game Map Database

Hello, I don’t like downloading Warcraft 3 maps from fishy third-party websites. I would like to download custom maps and upload my custom maps to a Blizzard hosted server in-game, where players can browse custom maps and download in-game same way as Starcraft 2 has an in-game map database. Who wouldn’t want this? Then we can easier browse maps, update maps, write changelogs and know who the developer of each map is. We would need tags like “Tower defense, hero siege, coop, moba, mini-games, tag, other…” as filters, review system and report button for stolen maps.

Regards
Dani

Hello Dani I like your nickname

SC2 Arcade has this Blizzard hosted maps server database but SC2 was entirely built from the beginning around this system.

I don’t see a remake handle such a system while it was released some years ago, it would be a too big change.

Maybe something less heavy, like just downloading maps, and without the integration system with game hosting could be a solution, but still, this is also a big work to do.

This is a good idea in theory, but it would be a large amount of work to implement considering the game never previously had such a feature.

However, the server does keep copies of custom games that people play in order to download them to other users at a reasonable speed, so if you can find anyone else playing the map you want to play, all you have to do is join their game.

It’s not perfectly convenient, but it’s still more than many games had back in the day.

Want this too!
