Here is a short list of downgrades on the original campaign that i can remember after playing:
-IA is not working in the same way as before. The game is considerably eazy even on hard difficulty. I Just won the mission “eternity’s end” on hard without losing the human encampment. I didn’t used any fancy strat, not a single goblin mine, just the normal army composition and spamming heroes powers.
-Some cutscenes are simply different for no reason (downgraded). Ex: In the end of the Illudan mission, he used to walk throught the forest knoking down every tree in his path, leaveing only trails of fire. Now the cutscene cuts before he reaches the trees.
-The changes to economy and population from frozzen throne are added to the reign of chaos campaign. Without the proper balancing.
-There are new bugs in the 18 yo campaign. Ex: in some missions dialogues don’t trigger, itens don’t drop and objectives don’t complete.
-Now you can’t skip campaigns. Want to get straight to Frozzen Throne? Play every single reign of chaos mission.
-Some places of the campaign map, especially in “Dungeon missions”, can give you visibility of places you shoudn’t. This is happening frequently.
-Cutscenes from the game trailer have been downgraded.
-Some aleatory heroes have multiple models like the dreadlords, which is nice. But some of the main characters had their models reduced from multiple to one. Ex: Furion/Malfurion had originaly 3 models, now he has only one.
-You can stack now up to 5 usable items in a single item slot on heroes like scroll of healing, scroll of town portal, healing potion etc. Cool new feature, but… Haven’t been balanced, sometimes brokes the campaign missions making them too eazy.
If this is not a bug, at least I really hope they change this, and I know it’ll sound stupid but…
Why kids are now all invulnerable? There are some maps that were using Childs (Like RP maps) and now it’s just useless to make any Child cause if you then want to just delete him cause he turns into an adult, or simply dies, you can’t kill him…
Because Blizzard cares more for the social justice dumb political correctness in their games rather than to actually making a working game. Also, the general chat of the main menu can be infinitely spammed and there is no mute function. They banned A LOT of “bad” words like “booty” and the surname “hitler”, but couldn’t care less for making the chat work properly LOL
I will add that new Silvermoon and new Dalaran even on Hard offer no challenge at all:
Silvermoon: you kill Sylvanas base. Recover your lost unit. March on Silvermoon, kill sylvnas, get the new hero. You won. They can’t counter you. They don’t have a base or an army able to reach your base and destroy you. Is only long if you make suicide attack, that’s all.
Dalaran: Dalaran CAN’T touch you. Is only a push with some “fancy” side quest with the mages. The aura if you have unholy aura level 3 doesn’t even deal damage anymore.
They just made the campaign easy for all. And I guess they made it for the achievement.
Stupid choice. Like put all the TFT Mechanic on RoC campaign. I find so much rune, the orb give me air attack. Now every mission is easy as hell. I can even destroy enemy base in the defensive mission. COMON.
Lol despite the lack of specificity there, the fact is you could always destroy the bases in the “defensive mission”, be it “March of the Scourge” or “Under the Burning Sky”. In fact, it was so much intended to be possible that the mission ended in victory immediately when you finished destroying everything on the map. That was Classic Hard.
The thing is those “new maps for the missions” for Silvermoon and Dalaran were made so poorly like they were stitched together like 10 or so days before release that there is no doubt they suck and are not challenging. Silvermoon reminds me now visualy of a Water park and Dalaran a level from a Super Mario game. If they want to fix them in my opinion they should pull them back and do them correctly( the campaigns). When i saw the way they made those maps i didnt want to play singleplayer anymore. My 13 year old causin knows how to make better map layouts in the editor.
This is so true. “The Culling” mission originaly had you on an open base that could be attacked by two sides and a large city where you could try do race for the objective without having to face Malganis if you wanted to (which was hard but safe). Now your base have only one entrance (WAY EAZIER) and the city is more clustered. The map is smaller and you have only one way to play it.
Dalaran had a dozen of places with enemy bases which you could explore or ignore, usually hard to destroy but with item rewards. Silvermoon had a least 3 paths to the fountain, now both Dalaran and Silvermoon have a linear path. It’s cool that they added some new mini bosses and NPCs on both missions like the king of the high elves in Silvermoon, but the map has been definitely downgraded.
I just played the campaign mission March of the Scourge, the mission where Arthas holds out in a city waiting for Uther to arrive with some knights. I noticed I was getting attacked a lot less often and not once did an enemy hero show up. It was too easy. The only way I can see to fix this is to create a custom campaign that imports the maps from the classic game into the editor and combine them with the models of the new game. Which will probably be how I play all future playthroughs of the campaign.
Same thing here. And also in the final mission of the Night Elf campaign in the RoC, “Eternity’s End” the enemy heroes only showed once in the human base. Once i’ve killed them all, they never ressurected like they did in the original WC3. I was able to protect the human base without difficulty to the end of the mission.
Another problem is that the Rune system from TFT is now implemented on the RoC campaign, but the tutorial to use Runes still only shows up in the first TFT mission like in the original WC3. This is pure carelessness with the game.
New Patch fixed some really basic stuff that should be fixed on launch, especially with the game being delayed. But… GRID KEYBINDING IS STILL NOT WORKING!
I told him my cousin to rework the map layout for the mission( Fall of Silvermoon) in the editor, if i can load it ingame (because the game doesnt allow it at the moment ) i will take some pictures and post a thread if there is a possibility to load more pictures in a single post just to prove a point. If you didnt see on YT you can find some guy did a real reforged version of Dalaran, Silvermoon, Capital city etc. using all the assets Blizz themselves added to the editor and ended up not being used in their official campaigns, which makes me angry even more.
You’re “lucky” I guess, but I’m not running into that particular bug on that mission. Enemy heroes keep showing up (except Rage who, on Hard, never shows his face). At least that mission feels just as difficult as it always has.
Original Warcraft 3 RoC 18 years back didn’t had any major bugs like that. And the game also could not receive updates or patches, so it was good at the launch day. Blizzard is a shame nowadays.
It definitely does not. I’ve played the WC3 campaign at least a dozen of times, and not even once i’ve been able to survive with the orc base alive, just imagine with the human’s one. And the missing hero attacks have nothing to do with this, the waves where just harder, and also because Archimonde used to attack the actual frontline base after you’ve survived more than the expected. Now he just didn’t. This is also story breaking, because the final cutscene doesn’t make any sense if both the human and orc bases are alive.
I played Classic at release, so I know about it. And it certainly could be patched, if one were to log into Battle.net. It was the 21st century already, so people knew about the Internet.
This is being discussed in another, with a player (@Telenil I think) doing an analysis of that question - I look forward to the findings.
What I do know is that I never lost the Orc base on this mission; I understand that what happens in-game doesn’t necessarily need to reflect what happens in the story mode; and in this playthrough I pulled all the stops and did a better job at coordinating and marshalling my resources, which is what I credit my capacity to succeed in this mission on hard this time around.
I can’t remember that being the case; if it is, then I’m glad that Blizzard did away with that particular trigger, 'cause it’s cheesy to script automatic defeats of that sort within a mission, in my opinion. If you can do the job and hold, you should be able to do so.
